What I cannot get my head round is why it should effect your policy or any other if your wife's car was insured on a separate one.
Have you stressed to them that your wife reported the incident to protect them against a false claim? My wife and I have notified the N.F.U. of several incidents and it has not increased of effected our policies . Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

When I read the title of the thread I thought you had cracked onto a brilliant idea
Something sounds dodgy there I would argue the toss or go elsewhere. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

It happens. Closer to home than many may think. I too reported a non-fault no claim accident...What ensued was mystifying, abysmal and extremely frustrating ending up with a 50% hike on my premium. Absolutely nothing to do with A-Plan I hasten to add but a common underwriter used by several brokers, 'common' being the key word here. Surprised the thread is still in existence.

I told them they can 'kiss my swingers' and went to a much more reputable underwriters, even though they 'closed the open claim' within 24 hours. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I hate insurance companies...
They are always right and there is no point arguing. when I tried to get a quote from one of the site sponsors they told me I would not be able to get insurance from them because of my lack of experience driving defenders... I have had 4 and driven defenders for 12 ou 13 years... So I went with Churchill 178£ for the year. Insurance companies are only good if you pay as little as possible and don't ever need them... Insurance companies are all a load of charlatans in my opinion. I claimed a few years ago for a rear screen on a pick up hardtop. The excess was £75 which i happily paid because Autoglass , also a rip off, charged them £1032. I've always paid the extra to protect my no claims bonus and as glass claims dont affect this I didnt expect an increase of premium when renewal came around. Well, they loaded my premium by 60%...thieving I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Many/most/all (?) policies require you to report all "losses" regardless of whether you actually claim or not.
If it is in your small print, there's probably not much you can do to argue about it. No matter how annoying it is. |

So, I think we are all in agreement that insurance companies are on the whole bad and dishonest and robbing wiggling snakes....
So, what can we do to change this? I'm sure insurance is much more affordable and reasonable in other parts of the world. How do they do it? What can we as "the people" do about this other than just stop paying? Is there a better way? One of the problems is actually we pay a small amount to insure our vehicles so most policies are stripped bare of all costs to be competitive.
This means that every minor change or incident allows the insurer to up the premium ( profit ) . Most reputable companies (eg NFU ) tend not to charge extras but then the cost is usually higher in the 1st place. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

Yup, neighbour 'phoned her company enquiring about her insurance excess, she'd reversed into her garden wall. No claim, the dent (and damaged brickwork!) is still there, but her next year's renewal notice showed a substantial increase. She'd reported an “incident”… On the other side of the coin, my father's motor caravan was shunted from behind. Being “specialist”, Saga told him to get the repair - simple replacement of a GRP rear panel and a standard Citroen rear lamp - carried out by a motor caravan dealer. Their invoice was for tuppence short of three grand, and my father was so outraged he 'phoned Romahome to find out the cost of their panel. Retail was less than four hundred quid, work out for yourselves how much the insurance company was ripped off! Peter |

A horse shied as I was passing it a few years back denting the OSR panel on my D2. Walking pace incident, horse OK and rider admitted liability but gave me false details. Reported to my insurers but didn't claim. Have had to declare this ever since and pay an extra premium. When I queried this I was told there was an unresolved claim for £1000 against me, I explained if I could be bothered to sort it we were looking at £25 -30 in filler and paint. When I renewed this time the database has decided that I've lost my NCB despite never having made a single claim in 31 years.....

After a recent shunt my daughters insurance company said that if she didnt take her car to be repaired at their approved garage they would double the excess, adding several £100s to the excess.
I was going to query this, but assume its buried somewhere in the small print. I didnt feel the need to waste my time in the end, so didnt bother. Also the large windscreen companies have agreements with insurance companies to inflate the cost on your windscreen invoice. Our company car policy has a £250 windscreen excess. We were presented with a £500 bill less £250 excess and pay £250. This affected our claim profile. Ring the same windscreen company and ask how much to replace a windscreen for cash...........£250. Needless to say thats what we do now. |
