I have been put off getting a new Puma having read all the reliability problems but 150,000 on same engine & clutch is comforting. Perhaps there should be a thread on Pumas that haven't given trouble to balance it out |

We have just placed an order for a new 110 Utility and considered HD Suspension pack. We had the same idea - base spec...
After lots of phone calls to Land Rover UK and the purchasing dealership it appears that the HD pack does not offer that much on a 110. We asked the direct question - what is different about the 'axles' - we were told at first that the front was the same and that the rear was 130 spec. When we checked again, we were told that the 130 rear axle is no different to the 110 rear axle!! We were told that the weight capability difference is down to HD springs. So for your money you get a HD jack, HD wheels, HD springs and roll bars (I think you get these anyway)... No change to clutch, axles etc. So - we ditched HD suspension pack!! Hope this helps - it was 'clear' that most dealership and the LR helpline were not clear!! |

Ahh!! I did not say anything about the engine just the clutch was original, about the only thing that is, but warrenty and Matfords at Exeter are excellent. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. Just thinking out loud here...did a search for towing and couldn't find a direct answer, however my understanding is that to tow for hire or reward with a GVW over 3.5 tonnes (so thats a 110 towing another landy for example then) it must have a tacho and comply with drivers hours regs.
Now, I was under the impression that a "car" was exempt from tacho regs even if towing commercially (so discos and range rovers and other such silly things), however a recent video link showed a plod pulling over a 90sw for no tacho when towing, even though it would legally be a car. Any thoughts on that? I would think its a crazy situation anyway to allow someone to tow commercially for as many hours/miles as they liked without a break, so would the same regs apply? I'm thinking disco etc pays more road tax, but may be exempt drivers hours/tacho regs, defender needs a tacho (cos its classed as a commercial) and would have to be driven in compliance with drivers regs. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

AFAIK a 'car' (eg. Range Rover) still needs a tacho' if GVW is over 3.5 tonnes and the driving is for financial gain.
Edit: [pedantic] - Not strictly GVW, rather Gross Train Weight |
