When I ordered mine one of the first jobs was to change the grill to a black one.... but after seeing it I decided to keep it as it does add a certain something to the look. Glyn |

Glyn - similar here. When I tested a 90 when the Puma first came out I wasn't sure. Now I've really warmed to it.
Wife's grandad recently bought a pretty standard spec 90 (about as "bare" as you can get) and the XS definitely looks a hell of a lot nicer. I do like his steel wheels though - I have a thing for them on Landies. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Haha, his budget is struggling for a Defender county... I am trying to encourage a couple of grand more for what I beleive is a much better spec but where is the extra £15k coming from for the D4? Glyn |

Budget is only part of it, fact is it will be a working vehicle and I don't like or need the bling add-ons that the county and XS offer. I want it to just look standard but with a few comforts as its going to do a lot of miles, and I wouldn't mind some wolf rims on. I have now been told by Landrover that the HD spec does NOT include an HD clutch (why the hell not???) so won't be bothering with HD spec I think. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

They couldn't get the normal clutch right and how many of those have they made so why would you want a rarer hd clutch, more downtime at the dealers again doh

My thinking was an HD one would last a bit longer then the normal ones, seems to be a weak ponint so I hear... 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I have an XS 90 and was 'loaned' a 60 plate 110 Utility during the cold spell whilst I had my locks swapped out under warranty! As mentioned previously the heated windscreen, seats and cold climate pack are an absolute godsend! The other extras including HD suspension (used to come standard on the XS, not sure now) IPOD interconectivity, ABS and TC (which in a momentary loss of concentration stopped me from piling into a tree on a 90 degree bend) are also very handy tools (for me anyway). If I were to exchange my vehicle I could never consider accepting a lesser specification! I missed the practicality when scraping the ice off and untoasted swingers and unmisted interior dearly with the loan vehicle!
If there is any way you could stretch to an XS I guarantee you'd have no regrets! It's as close to 'car comfort' you can get whilst still driving a Defender! As an afterthought I have not suffered from any clutch, gearbox or any driverrain issues in two and a half years of ownership! Why worry if it's backed up by a decent warranty? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

But by speccing a base vehicle + aircon + cold climate pack + comfort pack I get everything I want anyway, don't care about carpets, alloys, silver grille or anything else thats just for show. Don't forget I'm quite happy to drive a series up and down the country, so I don't really desire limousine levels of comfort. The HD spec is only available on base vehicles and offeres uprated axles and springs with anti-roll bars, also gives a 3.5 ton GVW I think. (might be 3499KG to allow us younguns to drive without an HGV ticket) 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |
