Poor Starting
My new 90 was starting fine until last weekend when we went caravanning. It has a L.R 13pin tow electric socket which was fitted from new but this is the first time we've used it. Before our trip it always started on the button so I was surprised when half way on our journey when we stopped for fuel the 90 only JUST started after filling up.
Ever since it's been very lazy starting so it was off to the main dealers for a fix.
Rang me early evening to say it was fixed and the problem was a "loose earth wire on the transfer box", could any of you fine chaps take the time to explain to me why this would 1. not charge the battery properly and 2. only suddenly happen after the first ever use of the tow electrics..

Many thanks in advance.....Mark. Thumbs Up 04' 90 Td5 CSW..

Charging lead from alternator goes to starter then on main battery lead to battery , negitive is through engine gearbox back up main earth from battery to gearbox

you need both leads to have good connection or it would be like using a home battery charger and only putting one lead on

extra load of caravan electrics , but more likely it just got to a point of bad connection and that happened to be when you were towing on that journey

Thanks Munch Thumbs Up , well what they did worked as it started on the button this morning. As you predicted it was purely coincidental that I was towing at the time. 04' 90 Td5 CSW..
