Rear speakers in a double cab
Morning all,

Done a lot of searching on this topic but haven't come up with what I need.

What options are there for mounting rear speakers in a Double Cab? I have replaced the fronts and am about to fit a small powered sub. I don't want over blown sound, just full sound.....

I read that Alex had mounted 6x9's in enclosures behind the rear seats. If anyone has pictures of this type of install and views on sound quality it would be appreciated.

Cheers Bow down

TC

I saw some pics in this forum of a DC with speakers in the back ...
I'm also also looking for them ... but couldn't find...
I believe that they were from a member from Cyprus with a light metalic grey 110 ... Anyone ? Question

....ah ... found it ....

Excellent - cheers.

Wanted though to have something more substantial. The reason the fronts sound so light is that there is little accoustic control due to the backs being wide open. Just cutting headlining and mounting straight on will also give little control (I am sure they are adequate). I want to achieve something fuller. As said though, not base heavy, just a nice full range.

cheers

Well for me a pair of columns on the rear would be enough ... Mr. Green I'm not a sound enthusiast ! Very Happy
I just needed to know if there are any wirings pre instaled to the back of the truck ... or do I have to extend it myself ? And how dificult it is to remove the roof lining ?, or it is a simple job ? Regards

Not my truck, but I believe Ben posts on here...

I quite like this position:

Although, I have since put station wagon rear seats and mechanisms into mine to give me folding rear seats, so this doesn't quite work for me.... [:O|===|O:] 2001 110 TD5 Doublecab

That looks very tidy. Would be good to have a view on sound quality. I imagine they would be a little muffled with the seat back in place. I guess it is always going to be compromised though.......

Just seen this thread and thought I’d reply with my install, although I have only 1 pic.....

I built on long MDF box with 4 compartments (1 for each speaker) the box sits on the two wheel boxes and is kept in position when the seats are bolted back as normal, it was a nightmare to make as the box was made thinner to fit to the 60 / 40 split. But I think it works very well as no extra space is taken up in the cab, they are high out of the way and you don’t have to cut anything out of the car. Thumbs Up these are also one of the bigger sized 6x9's (if that makes sense) you can get from JBL so space shouldn't be an issue..... Neutral

Was there any wiring to the rear of the truck or you had to extend it yourself from you radio/dashboard ... ? Regards

If I were going to the trouble of fitting decent speakers I would ignore the factory wiring and run a fresh set of better quality cables direct form the head unit. The factory stuff is almost single strand! (sufficient for morse code but not much else!)

Yep, that was my solution. It is a little muffled, but with a set of miss and tweeters in the dash and an active sub under the rear seat it produces quite a nice sound. In a DC there seems to be very few places to mount other than there or the headlining. 2002 Defender 110 DC

This approach looks very tidy. There is a nice little void to fill in. Shame though that the speakers end up side onto the seat....hey ho, If I wanted a monster stereo system I would have bought a Corsa Very Happy

Have fitted the single 'inphase' 100w powered sub. Excellent improvement, not too much, just enough.

Only issue now is it is making the rear windows rattle!

Was thinking of making some raised feet extensions for the cubby and mounting the sub underneath. Anyone tried this?

Cheers

TOPIC HIJACK ! Mr. Green Could not find another thread and it's somehow related !!
Hi ...
Just bought a subwoofer and I'm thinking in installing it under the right rear passenger seat ... The best place I could find ... and the only place it fits ! It's a Clarion Slimline....
However I have a question ... or a few questions ! Very Happy I want to pass the wires through the roof lining .... But how do I remove those plastic rivets that secure the lining ? Is there a special tool ? Can I put them back on or do I have to fit new ones ? And what is the best way to get the wiring to the radio,? What parts of the dashboard to I have to remove ?
Also going to route the antena for the CB through the lining on to the outback console ... but that should be easy!

Any recomendations are welcome! Thumbs Up Regards
Joao
