We do not have the power to control LRJ and their productions line and product development, but I hole Hartley agree with this, The defender is too iconic to simply fade away or lose its identity. That can't happen.

Trouble is LR are no longer British.
If it was, right now we really could have been getting somewhere! |

Is it the right thing if it devalues the Range Rover brand? They sell more of those models and they are cheaper to build.
If they choose to go big on utility vehicles they can. They will be head to head with Ford, Toyota, and Volkswagen and that might be just too scary for what is a small car company. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

From 2005 to 2015, Chrysler has sold over 1 million jeep wranglers. Since introducing the new body, interior and motor sales have gone up. Land Rover needs to get in on that. So does Toyota! Bring back the fj40!
Americans yearn for solid axles and low torque turbo diesels in a 4x4 package. If anything maybe tata motors helps the defender because India, the Chinese and others do not prohibit themselves like the west does. The west is in decline. We are hell bent on regulating ourselves into 3rd world's. |

Just to clarify, I am a wrangler owner but I'd give my right testicle for a new-ish defender 90.

JLR are not interested in Defender users or users of products older than 4 years, otherwise they would have developed the Defender in the same way as Jeep have keep up with their Wrangler.
A friend of mine who was involved with the Defender for may years (a well known LR author and journalist) told me so...... Cheers Don. |
