That's a good point about the tabs.
For fitting, I find it useful to leave the electric window switches hanging out so you can get a finger through to support the plastic brackets those tabs click in to. Otherwise the brackets bend back and spring forward again, pushing the facia back out. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

I have had my dash apart so many times I lost the metal clips. I basically have now drilled a hole in the headunit case, and then with the clock and vents out, I attached a cable tie to the mounting hole that the support bracket (which you remove) bolts too. Pull this tight and the fascia etc all sits perfectly in line with the sides. Andy
