What does a first service include?
£450 / £570 sounds an awful lot...? |

Not much more than an oil change, unfortunately.
Wait until you get quotes for the 2nd year service, mine ranged from £440 (Duckworth, Boston, Lincs) to £770 (Lookers, Bishops Stortford). |

Mine cost £424 at Yeovil Landrover despite the worlds most expensive screen wash which was the only real thing of note other than an oil change and a new oil filter.
I know one service is hardly precedence but I do like to get them to fix at least one of the random assortment of squeaks, creaks, groans, clicks or other random noise that the bodywork seems to be making this time round. Last time it was the dashboard, this time it's the back panels that are making want to shout "Yaaaarrr! 'tis a cruel mistress" every time I go round a corner. |

did they have a mask. on you should be looking about the 300 pound mark for first service and 560 for the second land rover do a price match so call around a bit then go back to your local agent. not much done on your first service at all

The first service is of course, much more than an oil and filter change (and a top up of screen wash).
It is where you convince them that the door doesn't shut, the indicators don't work properly, the paint is flaking etc etc, and they in turn ask you to bring it in because the rear crankshaft oil seal has gone and they need to take the engine out ... It is your chance to weigh them up, (and theirs to weigh you up)! As a veteran of such one-to-one combat, I use a main dealer until the warranty runs out, then use an indie. These days indie's can do warranty work too, of course, but I suspect they have less clout in terms of getting it approved. Your mileage may vary! [To anwer the question, I think ours was about £430 at Listers, Droitwich. Good but not perfect, but that is more than many would probably say about me!] That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent! 2014 90 XS SW 1997 Discovery 300TdiS (retired to stud) 1966 Series IIA 88" (now my son's) 2001 Astra - I need something to go and buy the parts when the others are off the road! |

Interestingly listers droitwich wanted over £500 form mine so went somewhere I can trust (local Indy) as each time I took it in for warenty work it came back with bits broken.

Had my first service at Stratstone Aylesbury this week. Not £299 as previously suggested in spite of much haggling. Settled on £350 instead of £399 originally quoted.
Compared to other official dealers this was something by of a 'bargain' for this deluxe oil change. The supplying dealer - Hunters of Guildford wanted close to £600 and seemed offended when I suggested that was unjustifiable. Their labour rate must be over £200 per hour when the only parts required are oil, filter and sump washer. Mind you they do offer free Danish pastries to distract punters from their invoices. Nice folk and excellent valet included at Stratstone Aylesbury which helped soften the blow. Would go back again based on this experience. |

Thanks for the feedback. They absolutely denied ever offering a service at that price. I spoke to three different service staff - all referred back to the service manager who dug his heels in at £350 min. Wish I'd had that email earlier. I'll have words! Cheers |
