Is my EGR on the way out. Chukka chukka noise
When I turn the engine off I get the Chukka chukka chukka noise. From searching the forum I think this s the EGR valve. What I don't know is whether it's supposed to do that or it is a sine of impending doom. Anybody know?

It's supposed to do that, unless it's making a really unpleasant noise!

It's just the valve cleaning itself after you turn the engine off. Not that it seems to make much difference to the longevity.

They're actually meant to be pretty silent in operation, but most aren't and the chukka chukka is quite normal. It may well go on for years without problems, but if it stops now (after having started) you'll need to do something about it.

Certainly nothing to worry about at the moment.

Try some Millers diesel additive, that'll help keep it clean too.
I also agree with above.

Cheers all. I have the Millers diesel additive as used it in my last car, so it'll continue in the defender.

The time to worry is when it stops doing it !

I think I might look into blanking/deactivation.
