OK well I'll have a look when I pick her up on Thursday. I'm trying to plan this trip and I've not even picked the vehicle up yet so can't measure things or finalise what I want done until I have her parked on the drive.

Trailer, braking etc.
Generally trailers with a maximum gross weight of 750kgs and under aren't braked, and that's fine behind a Defender. Larger trailers have to have brakes. I've no idea how your licence works but just check you're OK The trailer you're listing has a MGW of 750kg so is fine without brakes:
It's a bit of a weird one, twin 750kg rated axles but a MGW of only 750kg I'd have thought would make the suspension overly harsh and reduce the potential payload. It's also fairly small and can't take a standard 8*4' sheet. If you went with something like an Ifor P8e (other trailers are available) you get a greater potential load, larger size, single axle and it's cheaper. |

Thanks for that Cupboard. This is the first one I found TBH and we already have a small Erde trailer. We have an Ifor Williams horse trailer so I should look at their regular trailers. Not sure where I can find them here but I'll search

Well if you're coming over to the UK anyway, save yourself the ferry costs and pick it up here?

If it's cheaper I would. OH now has eyes on a new Ifor Williams horse trailer to match the Defender, so I may be bringing that back so I'm told If so problem solved.

She's home!
Boy so many people turned to look as I drove her home and two guys from Paris came over to admire her as I filled up with fuel on the autoroute Quite an attraction we were LOL (yes I found fuel thank goodness albeit a bit pricey) I am over the moon with her but she needs black wheels don't you think? Still waiting for the LED headlights to arrive, hopefully they will have them in soon. That's our Freelander over in the background and give me strength, another Defender arrives in a couple of weeks time. OH is a ruddy copycat!!! My other car is a Peugeot 207 and that is my daily use car. This baby is not going anywhere near a blasted French supermarket carpark! They just don't care if they dent your sides with their doors. Yes they are. http://www.lrparts.net/terrafirma-wraparou...er-90.html Although they cost me more than that in France I really should have waited and had them fitted in the UK as they are almost half the price there, but I was being impatient
The garage added a few bit n bobs for me in addition to those. raptor steering guard, chequer plating, LED lights although the headlights haven't arrived yet, adjustable tow bar, full LR rubber mats, and they had the wheel arches and front grill etc sprayed gloss black. The main upgrades happen next month when I take her to the UK. Honestly, this is silly, I can't stop smiling LOL I'm a grown man FFS! The garage very kindly gave me a nice bottle of French wine, which I am happily guzzling as I type. I may not make much sense after this sentence so I apologise in advance Last edited by Riverboy on 18th Jun 2016 12:31pm. Edited 1 time in total |

But what size? I had a very strange conversation with the chap at the garage today regarding wheels. At first he said it's illegal in France to change the wheel or tyre size. Then he says many people do. He said it would pass the CT OK (MOT) but may cause a problem with the insurance should I have a crash. He then said he would go for 18" wheels himself and they do sell them.
I left more confused than ever. |

Imho its going to be your boost alloys powder coated black or sawtooths in black as well, both 16" but i do like the Bowler black ones, up to if you have 16" or 18" in those 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Get some black Sawtooths...
They will both look great, and I would presume also be legal... as they are original OEM wheels that could have been fitted to your car from new. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |
