Another Td5 with belt chirp !
It’s driving me crazy!.. it’s perfectly aligned. I’ve fitted a genuine tensioner along with a new belt. I’ve tried gates and dayco branded belts, squeak free for about 100 miles then it’s starts again?

Hardly noticeable on start up, just on shut down.

It’s done 82k so I can’t imagine the crank pulley is failing?

I need to sort it.. any suggestions ?

Cheers

Alex

Is it a belt or a bearing? It sounds strange that it chirps after 100 miles. Roel

I’ve replaced the tensioner, so that’s a new bearing on the pulley. I haven’t renewed the idle pulley. However I can’t find a problem with with it.

I noticed when your switch off the belt jumps on the tensioner ?

I’ve removed the fan to eliminate that bearing.

It’s bloody annoying, so I need to sort it.

Not much help however mine has done this intermittently for years. Not always but once in while and still does. New belt, replaced idler, new water pump, tensioner and still the chirp??? (Not all replaced to sort the chirp just as needed) So most everything on the belt save the alternator has been replaced and its still there. Also tried it without the fan and it still happened.

My 04 did this at 85k, new crankshaft pulley and it went away, only when you turn it off mind?

There was a bit of a debate about it here:

The general consensus is that they all do it, it annoyed me so I changed it.

I’ve been looking online, however only britpart ones are available ? I will try Genuine tomorrow.

What did you fit ?

Mine was just billed as OEM with a genuine bolt - has been fine so far.

Fitted a britpart to a friends and only annoyance was how quickly the outer bolts rusted up - purely cosmetic though.

When you changed the belt, did you clean the pulleys super carefully? I found that I had the same issues and took the belt back off. I can’t remember what I used but something thin enough to scrape the rubber deposits from in the ribbed v bits on each pulley.

Belt back on and chirp free. 1951 80" S1 2.0

I’m having the same problem. Only when turned off get the squeal.
Had it in to local Indy & new tensioner fitted & belt. Was ok for a couple of days but now it’s back.
The Indyhas fitted 2 different tensioner as same happens first time.
I’ll find out what make the parts where, but I know the belt is a britpart.
The squeal is annoying.

If it is squealing when turning off then it will be the crank pulley/harmonic damper that has worn out and needs changing.

Update: I have cleaned the pulleys well and the chirp has stopped, for now anyway. I will give a further update if it reappears!

However I cannot buy a decent damper, only britpart or Genuine at £530!

OE parts prices are extortionate

A lot of parts shot up in price after Tata took over, for instance the TD5 Rev counter went from £85 to £300

Still eye watering but a Corteco damper from ECP is £378 currently.

Almost certainly crankshaft pulley rubber breaking down. Worth changing at some point. My damper actually sheared off the from of mine! Still chirps when turning off and really need to put one I got from a breaker on it at some point... should cure it .
