Sound deadening and Carpet for 110 Utility
Hi folks. What are the best options to make my defender a bit quieter and then carpet ontop. Want it to look good especially at the edges and doors. I see Exmoor do an insulated carpet, Is it any good.

Thanks

Rod

Hi Rod,

I went to AudioFile in bishops stortford
They used dynamat extreme for the vibration and dynaliner in different thicknesses as a closed cell foam for the noise and heat insulation... i cant tell you how quiet it is... its made a massive difference, even at high speeds (if they can be called that in a defender)

Cheers

Michael

A combo of Dynamat and NoiseKiller works for me - now I can talk on the phone at 60mph (hands free of course) Thumbs Up

Noisekiller kit under carpets, and Dynamat on the upper panels in the back. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Nice one thanks for the reply. When you fit the dynamat is it in for good or would it be removable with out much damage to the paint work. Also does it soak up water, Im sure it wont take long for the motor to get its first leak.

Thanks again.

Dynamat does not soak up water - it is sticky-back. The glue may fail with repeated contact with water

However no problems with mine

Dynamat on the sides, NoiseKiller under the carpet, and a Naka loadspace mat (from Brendan aha 4x4 overlander on here)

Also have TGE side panels (where the side windows would be) with Dynamat stuck on the metal behind.

Disco 2 levels of sound now Thumbs Up Perfectly useable. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

the carpets are standard 90 black carpets, they require a little thought as you need to spray both surfaces with the glue so that they stick, its pretty straight forward as far as i'm aware. One thing to note, the thicker the layers being added underneath, the les the carpet will fit...especially around seems and gearboxes etc...

Thank you

Actually we tend to supply a lot more 'Skinz' than 'Dynamat', can't personally tell the difference between them in terms of performance and 'Skinz' is a lot cheaper

Hi Rod,

6mm closed cell neoprene on top of the Dynamat (or Skinz), gives a more luxurious feel to the carpet.

The carpet is a high quality automotive / marine item that we buy direct from the manufacturer in bulk.

We don't sell kits or individual pieces, we only offer as a package with sound proofing for installation at our workshops in Kent.

It's the detail that counts - here you can see the barrel sides are carpeted and we trimmed the (customer supplied) 'MUD' side panels in Alston to match the headlining.

We also sound proof and carpet under the bulkhead relocation bar.

This shows a USW that we have sound proofed using Skinz

The rear side panels are sound proofed and then trimmed in Alston
