Today the Flying Scotsman is steaming from Edinburgh through the borders and return .
I've tried a thousand websites for the timetable but it's not available. I called national rail and they WONT disclose the info as they don't want public near the line . I want to see it traveling today , any info or inside knowledge? Cheers Keith |

Hi Keith
Sorry I don't have your answer... It's a real shame they didn't handle this better...now it's been announced that it will actually run today after stating that it wouldn't because they hadn't done the necessary health & safety checks, including checking 'if the train would be too long for some of the stations'... It looks like the story is evolving with pressure not to abort today's running... BBC gave no details this morning, and relatives of my wife (in Dundee) heard that they should listen to local radio for updates... For such an event...this really should have been sorted... Hope you get to see it SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

A waste of time running it if no one can see it .
I found the mobile No. For ticket holders info . When I said I didn't have one , they hung up . |

I have checked several, if not all the sites that would normally have the running times all have restricted access which has been tightened up. Some of the sites have actually removed the times after they have been published with the banner "The timings have been removed for safety and to prevent tract trespass."
I can understand why Network Rail and the Transport Police would want this after the dangerous scenes when it ran down the east coast a couple of months ago. A number of idiots who wanted to put themselves in danger have spoiled it for those who are responsible and just wanted to watch this famous locomotive steam past. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, or I'd have posted it up this morning.
There are two main sites that give live rail data and schedules - http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk and http://www.opentraintimes.com/ They can be very useful tools for rail travel all round. What you need to look for is an STP (Short Term Planned) schedule, headcode with a Z (typically), run by West Coast Railways and timed for 60mph (or 75mph in the case of Tornado). Otherwise, http://www.uksteam.info/index.htm is good, but as said, the Flying Scotsman's diagrams are being kept hush hush thanks to those idiots on the line. How did you manage that, when I had a look it had the times removed? Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
