/\/\/\But what "threat" are you perceiving?? There will never be another "world war",ever.Russia has so many billionaires, they will quite simply NOT allow Putin (who is also a Billionaire, many times over) to start a world war.The biggest threat of nuclear annihilation is from North Korea,China is North Korea's best friend,China also has many billionaires who also won't let NK start a war,China has criticised NK quite a lot, proving they can keep them under check. As for which is the better country to live in,it appears the Germans have learned from their mistakes (which is the true sign of intelligence) and is now one of the best countries in the world to live in.I would be more than happy to align myself with Germany than with any other country. I didn't refer to any threat. My point was that the Euro Army is getting closer. I understand the need for exchange posts. Long Look is with the Ozzies, you go there for 2 yrs and learn integration. We have US and French senior officers attached to the Brit army but thats it. The odd person in a HQ or Fd unit. But to place a whole unit under the command of another nation is a bit beyond what the EU is about.
My Sqn was selected to conduct an exchange with a foreign unit when I was serving. This was the early 90's. They were building a Bailey bridge and didn't quite understand the build process. My Sqn stepped up and finished off the build, building more bridge in less time than jonny foreigner had done. We couldn't wait to get back to the UK as the exchange didn't go as well as expected by the management. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I dont know if we would join that military approach remaining in Europe anyway or if its a bad thing...but would you not want to be part of the club with that unit rather than the tiny country on the fringe? Mike

NO.
I was very proud to of served in the most professional Army in the world. I wouldn't want to be put under control of a foreign nation. This is a slippery slope to 1 Army across the EU zone. This is not a good thing. We have high standards which other nations don't achieve or wish to. Do you think we should lower our standards to fit in with others? 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

Firstly we have a good army - the best, maybe, good PR maybe...but regardless moving to one - i doubt that would happen, it hasnt with the euro, why would we think it is with a european army.
Would i mind too much? possibly - does this have any bearing on being in the EU now - Not in the slightest. Anyway, we need to think of what that might mean for us if it happens at the time of this hypothetical Mike |
