Some sort of security thing I'd say - only two wires and the OE one is green and black, which is the fuel pump.

It's either a tracker or an aftermarket "tuning" box that effectively just over fuels the engine. How is it connected? Is it soldiered or just crimped in? 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Thanks for the reply it has 3 wires the black is the earth the brown conects to the loom wire a yellow and white the other is a green and goes into the ecu, I have cut the wires and it still starts and runs ok.
Has a toad alarm fitted and also had a Jeremy fern tuning big into caller etc.

It is a boost box not a 'tuning box'. Have a look at BAS or alive for info

As above, look like a boost box.

Essentially, stops the ECU going into limp mode when it hits about 18psi and detects over boost (after twiddling waste gate rod for example). The most overpriced bits of kit i've seen. I bought the hardware to build 10 of these boxes for about £15. The britpart version of this is about £100 - crazy!

It's a zener-diode, a tiny bit of cable, an aluminium box and a shedload of silicone or other compound to a) make waterproof and b) make it heavier so you think you're getting more for your money!

To the OP, it might mean your actuator has been fiddled with (or something more substantial). Check your waste gate actuator rod, there should be about 12ish threads showing as standard. I think I remember reading you can crank it to about 9 threads on a standard engine (no remap etc)
