to plug or not to plug ???
I am in the process of sorting out the 1999 TD5 defender.
During the big clean up to get to the rust so it can be treated I have come across quite a thick layer of mud in both seat boxes. This has been cleaned out the rust rubbed back, treated and overpainted with POR15.
There are a number of holes / gaps around the seat boxes that appear to have been letting in dust, dirt, and water. (I think it must have been wading at some point)

The question is do I plug the holes and sikaflex the corners and joints to make it water / dust tight?
OR
Do I need these holes to let the water out ?
It is a defender after all !

The right side (with the ECU's in it) should be sealed tight and no leaks what so ever. The battery box, if you have Lead acid battery, needs holes in it to breath as you do not want volitile or explosive vapour from the battery in the cab. If you use an AGM battery then seal that up as well as they do not breath gasses. Mine are both sealed and I have no issues, but I use an AGM battery.

Hope this helps some. Cheers 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)
