Wales 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Alpine White
Pioneer MVH-X560BT only working with ignition ON...
The HU will not come on without the ignition being in position I or II?
The factory fitted HU would come on for 1 hour at a time and this was working 5 minutes before changing the HU.
I checked the LR wiring, the PURPLE wire is PERMANENT LIVE & ORANGE/WHITE wire is IGNITION LIVE (could have this wrong?)
On the HU, YELLOW wire is PERMANENT LIVE & RED wire is IGNITION LIVE
On the supplied ISO adapter, this is how the wires connect.
The pioneer manual says that the red & yellow wires may need to be swapped.
I tried swapping them, still no operation with the ignition off???

Could this have something to do with the 'radio code'?
Hoping someone out there has fitted this same HU or has had the same issues and a simple solution will solve it...

most radio have switch feed to power it up and permanent feed to maintain memory i.e. time set up and station programming

That is the exact wiring diagram I checked before opening up the console.
There were 4 wires on the LR side:
Black = Earth
Orange/White = Ignition Live
Purple = Permanent Live
??? = ??? (Just went to check what it was & now cannot get HU surround off, to get it out to check)
But it was 0 volts with ignition off & did not check it with ignition on, yesterday during install.
The HU is holding all user settings and radio tuned frequencies...
Currently it is connected:
HU - LR
Yellow - Purple
Red - Orange/White
Black - Black
Blue/White - ??? (but this is the wired remote, which I don't have & will never use)

& if I swap the Yellow & Red on the ISO adapter, it does not hold the settings, just as though the battery has been disconnected.
So do believe that I've got the wiring right Question
But no HU with ignition off...

the only way i can see your radio working ign off
is to wire the red and yellow wires to the permanent feed

if this will not switch the radio on add switch red wire as the radio may need switched supply to trigger to start working

My new Sony HU is the same. It's wired correctly so I assume it's the HU. Not a problem though.

Yep, appears that the HU does only function through the switched live.
The permanent live is just there to stop settings, etc. being reset when ignition is off.

Some ISO adapters have extra plugs and sockets on them so you can connect the aux (red) feed to the permanent (yellow), so the head unit stays on until you switch it off.

My ISO adapter only has:
1 red
1 yellow
1 blue/white
1 black

Had the same issue and I e-mailed Pioneer and they sent this reply.

"Our head units have an ignition wire connection in their wiring loom and
will not come on unless the ignition connection is live.

Some OEM headunits are devised by the car manufacturer that they are not
dependent on this but all our product works in this manner." 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Did you find a solution or are you just using it as is?

Martin...
Do you think it would work to join the red & yellow wires?
Or would this just cause potential battery drain, other electrical issues or possibly blow the HU?

It's no big deal really as it comes on when the Land Rover is started. If we want to use it when parked up I just put the ignition key to the "power" position. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I used my vehicle for the first time at night and noticed that the HU lights do not dim when turning on the vehicle lights.
Does yours do the same?

Mine is the same, it stays the same. You can go into the settings menu and set the panel so that it is not as bright but the instructions are not the best. Good unit though! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

They are wired like that to prevent un-intentional battery drain.
Which would inevitably happen with the best will in the world.

The blue / white wire is the remote or RMT12v, it's used as a live switch for turning on an Amplifier.
Make sure the bare wire isn't exposed if not used as it is live.
