Why do starter / ignition switch die and what can be done?
Hi All!

Looks like my third starter / ignition switch is starting to act up, I was told that maybe there was something causing it to heat up and warp since the innards are mostly plastic.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening prematurely? Are there electrical gremlins that are having a field day with me?

My indie Rover tech is trying to see if the starter / ignition switch from a Ford Ranger can be good substitute as it is seems better built than ours. Same can be said of the main light switch and the indicator assembly.

Thoughts, tips, and suggestions? Smile

Are you using a cheaper aftermarket part, or a genuine/OEM part?

The box I got for the first one was Lucas. The one with the barrel lock is also Lucas. I'm presuming that the upcoming one that will replace this one will also be Lucas.

Are there more durable switches out there? I don't think I'd mind paying slightly more if it means that the part will last and won't croak at the first high load it encounters.
