It'll not be working as the three amigos are indicative of a fault. By recycling it over the 8kph speed it is not going through it's self test start cycle and you are fooling it into 'thinking' all is well. You'll have to get it sorted come MOT time anyway. Have you checked the wiring for chafing from the modulator connector? That was my issue that started intermittently and got progressively worse despite three trips to the dealer who found nothing.
