Matt LeBlanc and a professional driver performed "doughnuts" for Top Gear yards from the war memorial in Whitehall. What a pair of kn*b heads Westminster City Council said in a statement: "What the Top Gear team did on the day was not what had been agreed during the planning process. At no time had the BBC producers made Westminster City Council aware that the car was going to be doing anything but drive down Whitehall. There was no discussion about wheel spins and a doughnut and permission would not have been given to do so." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-35800187 Evans has said the footage will not be shown though he has no decision on the matter. Hate news like this.
People are too easily offended. Get a life, people who are offended by this, and get over it. This isn't news. (Not you gillarion!, just all the moaners who come out of the woodwork for petty things like this) Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

To be seen doing donuts on an airfield as usual for Top Gear is one thing , doing it on a public highway different kettle of fish IMHO no matter where it is

So, what's the reason to be offended?
1) That they did donuts on a public highway? - Given that the council have commented, and it's the BBC, I'm guessing the road was closed to traffic using a temporary suspension. Therefore no lawful offence was caused. 2) They did it close to the war memorial. For this I ask myself a hypothetical question. Would the men (and women) who are recorded on that memorial been offended had they been alive today? Deafened? Yes. Unimpressed? Yes. Bored? Very probably. Confused? Yes. Offended? I personally doubt it. 3) Ken Block marmalised a perfectly decent Mustang to make something ridiculous and then brought it to the UK. It was a coupe not a fastback so no worries on that front. I can't say that I am offended but I am certainly unimpressed.
It looks to me as though the Beeb has achieved what many thought impossible and dumbed down the new TG even more than the old one. |

Outraged, mortified, offended. Not me. I'm a die in the wool Ex Forces. And I'm none of these but I am upset. They knew exactly what they were doing and to use that monument to advertise their new show is not acceptable.
But as others have said, they have their 5 mins of fame. Seems the ginger tit is causing as much controversy as the JC 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I am by no means a PC or nanny state person, but I do find it disrespectful and offensive.
If they want to do that, why on a public road at all? Especially near the cenotaph. It could just be another bad taste stunt to get the ratings, but whatever it was it was, in my mind, stupid. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

As former HM Forces, I have to say I don't understand the fuss. I see nothing that insults me or my fallen colleagues. If you clamber and p*ss all over the Memorial itself, during an anti-something or other March, then that is specifically targeting the Memorial and what it stands for. If you drive past and flick the bird, if you steal a wreath, etc etc, likewise it is targeting the Memorial a is entirely disrespectful. But If you do doughnuts on a public street along which the Memorial happens to stand, then you're not targeting the Memorial or making it a centrepiece. So what's the fuss?
Further, think of the sort of men and women who join the forces. The Spitfire Pilots doing fly pasts against their Squadron Leader's express wishes. Soldiers doing doughnuts it tanks. Photos of crazy sailors in Bermuda shorts on their big grey machines. Let's be honest, most servicemen and women are made of exactly the sort of DNA that Top Gear is derived from. People who like fun, excitement, irreverence. To challenge the norm. Who are fed up with H&S, PC, EU led Britain. So as long as it wasn't directly targeting the memorial, then I'm sure many would love a good doughnut in central London. Life is just too bl**dy serious now. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
