The more I think about this the more I am offended not so much by the location or indeed the practicality of what was done but that a production company under the auspices of the bbc felt it needed to be done to get interest in their project. why not give the half dead horse of messing about in cars a rest and try being grown up as a change? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

A decent size home garage Ken. Have spotted the Defender neatly tucked away in a corner. Also noticed typical London parking. Using the painted lines to guide vehicle into its parking spot

The stunt of performing doughnuts on Whitechapel was only part of this show, they also interrupted a wedding photo session, and with I believe lots of rubber smelling smoke and then proceeded to tear around the streets of London at speed. Of course the London police were involved closing roads and marshalling the many spectators who lined the streets watching the spectacle. A good way to spend the licence fee, I suppose the comedic American Matt LeBlanc thought so; personally I am not too sure myself.
Just an adage, where I live we have problems with boy racers driving the North Wales scenic route called ‘The Evo Triangle’ as many as twenty young men in cars at weekends are racing in groups driving at speed around the circuit that takes in the A5, A543 and B4501, sometimes with near disastrous results for oncominmg traffic. These sorts of Top Gear stunts on public road I feel will just encourage such behaviour. Let's ban the TT as well, that's on public roads and those motorcycles go way too fast... |

That is a ridiculous comparison, the TT races are marshalled, the roads are closed off and every safety precaution is taken to keep spectators and racers as safe as is possible. The young men who road race in race tuned cars, not just on the EVO Triangle but on many other public roads as well have no such safety concerns, nor are they marshalled in any way. These boy racers see no problem racing a car on the A5 on the wrong side of a public road travelling at speed round a blind bend. The concern in my area is that people will be killed, or local people hurt. On-line blogs describe the route as a life-size Scaletrix track and a Disney World for driving enthusiasts. Local Farmers in my area have stopped moving livestock across the road at weekends because it is getting too dangerous and they worry about driving tractors along the road in case a high-speed car comes up from behind. Nothing like the TT. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |
