Discussed briefly here:
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic36858....uaz+hunter but maybe worth a fuller post as a possible Defender replacement for those that will not like what JLR come up with: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge "Yes, we love the classic Land Rover. But it turns out the Russians make a great old-school 4x4, too. Their version is called the UAZ Hunter and was famously used by Eastern Bloc militaries. In typical Soviet style, it's sparse, with few creature comforts save for power steering and a cigarette lighter. But it’s solidly built, with an all-metal body, metal bumper, and options for either a gas or diesel engine. Neither engine has much horsepower (128 horsepower for gas and 113.5 horsepower for diesel), but both make up the the lack of oomph with pretty good gas mileage (29 miles per gallon for diesel and 24.5 miles per gallon for gas). http://www.uaz.ru/en/cars/hunter/models |

You would be unable to import one as it doesn't comply with the various EU regulations that are leading to the demise of the Defender.
12 month warranty or 30,000 km on the Hunter ia even worse than Land Rover's warranty! Still as an alternative to a series vehicle...... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Would love to see the man clamping his welder to the power lines.
Wonder what they would say about it if caught doing it in the UK? 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

Can't help thinking that the UAZ left you with some great experiences you wouldn't have had without it?
