Our Howling Moon Roof tent dries really quite quickly - never had an issue with it at all. Never had any mildew, or musty smells or anything. Sometimes we've been home a few days before a suitable drying day, and it's just a matter of opening it up for a couple of hours on the drive.
I can't see why drying out is anymore of an issue than with a nylon tent or Oztent. You don't need to have any space like a garden or patio as you just open it in situ. I've lived in mine (as davew previously mentioned) for 5 months in Australia, and many shorter trips - snow, wet, hot, dry, windy - no real issues that you wouldn't have with any tent - and probably less than we've had ourselves with ground tents. We are so impressed with our HM roof tent it was a no brainer to get a trailer tent version when we decided to change to a 'base camp' set up for a different sort of holiday, and to accommodate our new family additions (2 Border Collies) Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

Suggest you look at the Gordigear roof top tents. Aluminium bases, no rotting no mildew smells. Top quality materials used and excellent production quality. Australian brand but manufactured in Germany I believe. They sell direct, so prices are very competitive. On a Ld Rover 110 you could fit two on the roof, one for the adults and one for the children. Check the website

I've got a Myway Serengeti (canvas) tent that I've had since 2008. Absolutely love it. Nice and light and has worn the years really well. Paul Stevenson the Myway man is a pleasure to deal with and I'm hoping to buy a Voyager trailer from him at some point

When I get paid im going to TUFF TREK and getting one of their 1.6 jobbys. Not a fan of the Maggies, Used ground tents for years and just want some thing simple and some thing which the Mrs cant decide is too small and thus need to get one that can fit a Chinook in it with its blades out!!!! Also I like the idea of less than 10 min to put up even in weather.
As for storage if your fotuante enough to have a garage and be able to drive into it see about making up a pully system and then having it secured to your garage roof. Likes of Thule and that make these systems for their boxes etc but can easily be home made. |

Ok, so pushed the button on a Gordigear, see what it's like then may get a second or look elsewhere.
Sounds like excellent quality for a fair price. Watch this space He who dies with the most toys...wins! |

Yep, I am supremely happy with my Gordigear Kit! Very easy to erect and bring down, seems like excellent quality and construction.

I have the 1.4 m together with the Annexe. I have only recently taken delivery, so have tested it but not really used it in "anger". So am unable to give firsts hand experience of how it performs on a howling gale or driving rain. However, I am extremely happy with the purchase.
