Hello,
I've just been looking at the engine in my little Puma (2.2)... Has it been modified by land rover or am I right in thinking it is the very same engine (ZSD-422, a 2.2 L 2184 cc turbo diesel) that is used in the top-of-the-range versions of the Mondeo and Jaguar X-Types, which produce 155 PS (153 hp/114 kW), as apposed to 122bhp? If so, is the engine mapping for the Mondeo or X-Type capable of being 'ported' across, meaning it could be borrowed for a 2.2 Defender? To me, this all seems strange that they would take an engine and de-tune it in order to meet emissions regs, but with a side effect so great that it increases the 0-62 time to 15 seconds, surely they would chose a different variant... I'm not sure where I am going with this post, but land rover doing this just seems a bit weird... Either way, from what I can tell, the car models below all share the exact same engine... 2005–2007 Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi 155, 155 PS (153 hp/114 kW) and 262 lb·ft (355N·m) 2005–2009 Jaguar X-Type 2011- 2016 Land Rover Defender |

And not to forget probably the biggest seller, the Ford Transit !!!!!
I believe these were available in upto 180PS, but definitely 155PS so I don't really understand LR's decision to limit it to 122PS and then offer it in the run out models at 150 PS but no option to upgrade other others ??? They're definitely missing a trick !!!! Its also a pity they didn't offer the i5 (3.2L 5 cylinder) as fitted in Rangers and the U.S. Transits !!!! Thanks, Mark |

an aftermarket proper remap will put you past 150bhp, with other mods will see an even greater increase in torque!
