Should do, but it sounds like a cheaper grade of stainless steel to me, maybe 304 grade? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you wire brush them, use a stainless steel wire brush. A mild steel wire brush will leave little bits of steel behind which will then start to rust and you'll be back to square one.
Most rusty stainless I see here is because it's been contaminated with non-stainless, although it's usually cosmetic rather than structural. |

I like Autosol - used the generic stuff from Halfords for many years, but recently I've purchased some of their other products that are not so widely advertised:

Hello jonno1968
If Stainless Steel then lightly 'polish' out and keep on top of it. If Chrome Plated (brushed) Steel then you will just chase the problem until they are switched to Stainless. As with everything Stainless Steel come in a wide range of qualities so if it displays a tendency to rust it is almost certainly due to a lower quality base material being used, even the quality of the TIG welding used will make a difference. Stainless Steel generally contains elements such as Nickel and Manganese, but the main corrosion resistance is provided by its chromium content. For example 18/8 means that this Stainless Steel contains 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel. 18/10 is 18% Chromium and 10% Nickel. The higher the numbers the more corrosion resistant the material. (trying not to give a metallurgy lesson here... ![]() From where you are try to use the least abrasive method to remove the rust, a wire brush can be very aggressive, very quickly, unless you scale it right down to a Dremel Good luck... ![]() https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

I'm indebted to Supacat for introducing me to Autosol Stainless Steel Polish. I've been using some of their other products for years but my polished stainless exhaust will certainly be having some SS polish treatment from now on.
