90/110 v8 fan cowling
I'm almost ready to do my v8 conversion and noticed I haven't got a fan cowling, a new one is rather expensive so I was wondering if I'd live without one for the time being? 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

If it is a Serpentine V8 then apart from the expense you will struggle to find a retailer with one that actually A) Fits as in the correct item, B) actually has stock..
When I built my 90 V8 a few years back I had 'fun' trying to secure the elusive ERR7307. I did change from 3.9 serp to 4.2 early V belt so I have the cowl in the shed but as you can guess it won't be cheap.

NTC5685 is the earlier pre serp one and again I think there is limited availability on them but there are still about the MOD are getting rid of a lot

If you do go Electric get a decent one with the curved blades and about 16inch. Make a decent cowl for it to sit in not just attached to the radiator core. A V8 needs a decent cooling capacity so it would be wise in the build not to limit it. I have seen a few botched attempts that only seem to blow a gentle breeze at the rad and are more noise then effective cooling.
The Cowl does allow for air to be drawn from the whole core and helps keep the beast cool.

I've just ordered a Revotec kit off Paddocks, not cheap, but cooling is pretty important on the big ol v8.

Lots of people in the Comp Safari world harvest complete cowling and fans from modern cars in scrap yards. Make "em fit.

Should have mentioned it's a 3.5 on carbs so no serpentine belt. Also don't want electric fans, I know I'm weird, I just like having a viscous fan more. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
