That wheel carrier certainly looks a bit skew whiff.
Which wheel carrier is it? Is it fitted to a pre 02 door? I would suggest you take the rear door card off and check if the door mounting plate has been reinstalled correctly. Just noticed TDi so pre 02 door. Reinforcing ribs inside door should form a central square. I wonder if the door plate has been rotated 180 degrees? Difficult to say from photograph if that would improve the situation or not Brendan |

Hi Brendan, yeah it's a 98 tdi. I've taken door card off and all looks undisturbed. Rotating the plate would actually make it worse. I'm sure it wasn't like this when I had it previously. If there's no adjustment available, I guess I'll just re drill the plate.

Mine is sitting quite right either (mine a 99 110), A mate fitted one to his 110 (1988) and his fits fine.
I think my issue is the two side hinge bolts are not aligned i.e with a plumb line they don't line up. So I will be doing a similar job as you and trying to align the carrier better. Have you got a picture viewed from the rear of the 110 ? Mine is a Bearmach carrier 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Which make of wheel carrier is it?
Have a look here which shows fitting of a Bearmach wheel carrier. The Bear mach wheel carrier has a small dog bone connecting door to main arm. The Safari Equip has a longer dog bone Britpart DA2232 fitting instructions here has a piston between door plate and main arm So what I am thinking is that the door plate is on the wrong way and that a jointing piece is missing. However not knowing make of wheel carrier makes it more difficult to work out what might be wrong/missing Brendan |

Hi Brendan, thanks for posting that. Looks like I have the Bearmach one and in the last pic it shows the carrier at roughly the same angle as mine, so maybe it's ok and I just didn't remember it was like this before!
