Trouble with those compasses is they never point in the same direction for long. Makes it hard to know where you are going Laughing

You cant (shouldnt) use a standard compass in a vehicle, there's too much metal. a GPS based one is more accurate.

A standard compass yes - but there are compasses (or is it compi Whistle ) designed for this application.

Aircraft have a compass set to compensate for the metal of the aircraft - i think its identical for the car one. Mike

I have this exact compass and it doesn't work, despite what it says suitable for cars it always points east. Maybe it will work in a French car but not my Defender with roll cage Sad

Aluminium bodywork is not so bad as it's not magnetic, it's the steel bulkhead that can be the problem, you are after all sticking the compass right next to it. And it's got this great big lump of engine just in front of it, so no wonder adding a steel roll cage mucks it up completely Very Happy

Oh yes and a steel bonnet and doors on a Puma Rolling Eyes

I use the one on my iPhone, very good and can set it to point to either magnetic North (like a real compass) or True North.

It is very sensitive though so swings back and fore when in motion but fine when you stop to ask "where the hell am I?" MAD COW
