Click image to enlarge[/URL] Good quality rims, easy to balance and very hardwearing (they have a very high load rating). Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

Hi Lambley
Could you say what side steps those are and how happy are you with them? |

Yes, no problems with them, I've had two sets from these people now, they make parts for L/R but don't have the same price tag, the set that's on my 90 (in the pic) have been on about 2 yrs, just a couple of spots of rust coming through on the welded joints but no more than you'd expect. I emailed them to ask if they had any pairs that weren't perfect for my old pickup, I got a pair for £60 that only had a couple of scratches, well worth the price.

Zu Rims are made in the UK for Safari Equip who are close to us.
One of the UK main distributors is Britpart, hence why you often see Zu Rims with a DA part number. Zu Rims are rated at 1400kg, so a very strong rim, with an offset of 11mm and are TUV approved hence road legal in the UK We have been using them for 5 years on our Defenders with no problems As an aside I am in the white lettering of tyres inwards not outwards camp However it is all down to personal choice Please note that genuine Zu rims will be £150-160+ per corner. IF they are a lot cheaper then £150 per rim then there is an extremely strong possibility that they are not genuine Zu rims, are made in China and the chances are that they are not TUV approved/E marked and are NOT road legal in the UK. I'm with you Brendan, I wish I would have asked for white lettering inwards now
I've seen some copies on the web, VBS I think. They don't have the same rating and don't have the Zu logo near the valve. It's a pity Philslandy isn't closer as I might be swapping my Zu's soon, nothing wrong with them or no other reason other than I fancy a change. |

I've had two sets of brand new Zu alloys, great wheels with only one drawback. Often they don't fit tight to the hub and rely on the wheel nuts to centre them on the hub. As far as I know there are no spigot rings slim enough to take up the slack. Ensuring the wheel is centred properly can be a bit of a lottery and it doesn't matter how well balanced the wheels are, there can be an awful wobble at 50mph plus. I've had Boosts, Sawtooths (genuine and aftermarket) and Dual finish alloys but never had problems wth these wobbling. 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful

Thanks for your precious advice!
I would only go for the originals with TÜV aproval So the only difference to the copy`s is the ZU next to the valve? I would go for the matt black one`s, they look fantastic Cheers Philip |

Definite give aways are use of expression Zu style and price. Any price below £150-160 per rim is extremely cheap especially if carriage is included!
So half price ones are NOT genuine Zu rims. Genuine Zu rims have Zu embossed on rim Genuine Zu rims have a load rating of 1400 kg, offset 11 mm and weigh 10.4 kg each according to Zu Rim website. Have seen Zu style rims with different specifications. Yes the different specifications could be typos, however combine it with a low price?? Your intended supplier? A respected well known company in the 4x4 world or an unknown company/person selling an unusual assortment of items not related to Defenders?? Tyres and rims come high up the safety features list! In your case Phil a case of contacting your friends in Berg bei Newmarkt?? Brendan |

LOL - the king is dead, long live the king.
Talk of genuine ZUs reminds me of all the talk when they first came out and were seen as a copy of the Mach 5s, albeit in a different material. |

If a design is no good then it wouldn't be copied as with the Mach5 and Zu and Challenger which all look remarkably very similar. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Zu´s are excellent. I have them for both the summer (255 MT´s) and winter tyres (265´s Coopers). Had no problems with them. Occasional slight wobble at around 100 Kmh only when the MT´s are cold, and absolutely no wobble or vibration at any speed with the softer winter tyres. Combined with 30mm spacers. No clearance problems, and a turning circle like a london taxi
They have also got to be the easiest wheel to keep clean.....not that Defenders should be kept clean Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

Thanks for your postings!!
@Wild Card, thanks for that last Information concerning the spacers! I have the Matzker one`s (actualy withe the Wolf steel rims) and i`d very much like to Keep them with the ZU`s. So you say this works, are they not too far out coming? Would you have a Picture from behind to see how far the wheels stand out - that would be great! Yes, a big Advantage is the cleaning of These wheels Cheers Philip |

Indeed, Zu's are excellent! I have 7 of them
No problems at all with balancing or wobble. Very strong and very resistent to to scratches and other off road punishments...
