Real life example, for the last 4710 km I drove with the 90 (sorry I did not measure before), the average is 10.17 l/100km which is 27.78 MPG.

I would expect a 110 to have a slightly lower MPG.

I dont mind saying the speed limit of 70 on the motorway is a limit not a target and between 65 and 70 is where i sit.

Gone are the days i care for speed and when i do, i jump in a plane and push a few mph (or kts) more than the cars will Whistle Thumbs Up and on nice days the odd areobatics adds the variety on on dodgy days a bit of IFR adds the concentration.

On MPG best ive got was a number of runs at 31mpg - not worked out what got it that, but it did.

Worst 16mpg

Normal average seems to be aroun 28, normal low seems to be around 25

Im not sure what makes it change - as ive tried all sorts to see, but im not sure i balance the length out enough to make a fair test. If there was one thing that i think screws MPG, its short journies. Long journies at aroun 60/65mpg ISTR give the best MPG. Mike

ofourdan & Gents of the high MPGs... tell me what is your defintion of a gallon? Are you using imperial or US.

I can hardly get to 23-24 mpg (US) and only if I treat the gas pedal like an egg.

I use a tool to create the mpg, base on uk gallon.

There are many factors that will dictate mpg though 90/110, equipment, driving style, fuel used, serviced etc Mike

There is only one Gallon and that is the imperial (UK) gallon which is 4.54609 litres, where your 3.785 litres for gallon is less.

soooooo, that means you need to add 0.761 litres which will equate to another 4.83 miles (if you get 24mpg) on the US gallon resulting in Just short of 29 MPG

I am using Imperial gallons.

1 Imperial gallon is 4,546.09 ml or 4.54609 litre.

1 Mile is 1.609344 km.

So, to convert litres per 100 km to miles per gallon (imperial, not US), one has to divide (100 x 4.54609 / 1.609344) by the l/100km value.

As 100 x 4.54609 / 1.609344 = 282.481638436, we have 282.48 divided by 10.17 L/100km which gives 27.78 MPG

Bow down of course... it makes me feel better. I get the sense of driving an eco-friendly and sensible car Very Happy

My calculator (obviously an american product / made in Singapore (this gives you an indication how old the calcualtor is Wink , cause nowadays it would say made in china by cheap chilren labour fource) knows only the US Gallon and Wikepdia tells me that on 1 January 2000, the imperial gallon ceased to be a legal unit of measure within the United Kingdom for economic, health, safety or administrative purposes.

This was probably imposed by some european commission or similar and I guess you couln't care less..., right.. Rolling with laughter The goons are trying to bring me down!

There's a free app for the iPhone called 'Road Trip'. Everytime you fill up just put in your mileage and how many litres of derv you've put in and it does the rest. It's a bit of a 'sad b@stard app', but without it I wouldn't have realised that Shell Fuel Save was a load of crap.

From my limited (8 days!) and three tankfuls' experience with my 110 USW, I seem to be getting 24-25mpg.

Hoping this will improve a tad with my BAS Remap, although probably outweighed by temptation to bury right foot... Smile

Here is an easy one...http://mpg.webix.co.uk/ I forgot to mention that we might be getting a different fuel in in der Schweiz now that it is "winter" I notice a bit of difference if I use the Ruedl fuel vs an avia or another mainstream mark. DOn't worry about mpg, go with liters/100 and it will look good as you are probably around 10 or 10.5 mixed driving. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

Got the BAS remap and found that, as you suggest, any improvement in MPG is negated by propensity to stamp right foot and smile - maybe you should wrap yourself in bubblewrap when your wife realises that the claim that you will save money and that the map will 'pay for itself' before long. Get an ITG filter while you are at it Thumbs Up

just done 402 on a tank (well thats when the light came on)
filled back up at 415miles - so I think thats about 27 - 28 mpg - mixed driving (running round local, then from Birmingham to Bournemouth to Reading).

My BM is meant to get 40mpg. I get about 30.
A 110 Puma is meant to be just under 30. I seem to be getting high 20s - happy with that!

Anyone know why the emissions are SO bad?!

BM - 286bhp (more like 300+ for most), 428lbs-ft just over 200g/km (later ones are 178!), 110 - 120ish bhp, 266lbs-ft and 295g/km!! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Interestingly the Ford Transit 2.4 with 'our' engine produces 257g/km!

Fuel economy is similar - 29 Combined.

Could the different fuel injectors account for the difference in emissions?

Just curious - the 3.2 TDCi engine available in the Transit has almost identical fuel economy and emissions, but puts out 200PS! Is it the same size as the 2.4?
