Puma alarm indicator
Can anyone tell me why the left hand red alarm light on the dash periodically illuminates when driving? Nothing seems to be wrong. What does it mean?
Thanks
Jon

It doesn't on mine. So, that would suggest an issue.

Mine's done it from time to time - so you are not in a class of one.

It's only the briefest of flashes, so maybe easy to miss if your eyes are elsewhere.

It's not led to any other issues and I don't know whether it would store a DTC for it if i had the kit to check?

My 2013 Defender alarm flashes a few times a year. I have never had any dramas so just tend to forget about it. From memory, it is a single flash which just catches my eye whilst driving. The Defender doesn't miss a beat.

MY12 Workshop Manual:

"If the remote handset battery falls below a pre-determined level, the handset will transmit an additional RF signal code to the anti-theft system module. This signal is relayed to the instrument cluster indicator which emits 2 rapid flashes every 0.5 seconds to inform the driver that the remote handset battery needs replacing."

My best guess is that it's to do with the Central Door Locking feature whereby the alarm light illuminates for 10 seconds if the driver's door is opened. Assuming it gets this signal from the driver's door switch and the switch operates with the slightest of movement then a random bump in the road could cause the momentary jiggle in the switch to operate the light.

I haven't checked this out - but if you open the door slowly, see how far you get before the light comes on to rule this in or out.
