The reverse light switch on on the left hand side of the main gearbox, quite high up, towards the rear, and is fairly inaccessible.
Standard Defenders (in the UK, at any rate) don't have reversing beepers, but I imagine that these are connected into the same circuit as the reversing lights. Do your reversing lights work properly, or are they also malfunctioning? If they are malfunctioning, then the switch could well be the fault. It is not unknown for the switch not to be properly screwed into the gearbox during manufacture - in which case simply tightening it up may solve the problem. |

..reversing light works fine and so far no issues of any kind with such things..its just beeper which indicates distance, randomly working..sometimes as expected, sometimes not at all..

Perhaps it is the beeper itself then. Try replacing it with a test lamp (or connecting one in parallel with it) somewhere you can see it and see if the test lamp also doesn't work. If the lamp is OK and the beeper isn't, then the beeper's the likely problem.
