Near where my parents live in Suffolk, there's a road junction by a house. It looks a bit like this:
The area marked in red is part of the road as per the map and the road on the ground and is used if you're coming down the bit marked "By Rd" and wanting to turn left (east), or coming from the east and wanting to turn right (north). This obviously helps visibility at the junction, particularly for vehicles which are harder to see out of such as vans and certain models of Defender. The house (marked artistically on the map above) has a couple of cars which they routinely park on the road in such a way that you can't drive up it. This is quite annoying when you're trying to drive there. What can you do about it? I assume it's illegal, but who do you tell? I assume if I towed them off the road that would be naughty? It's not a new issue, they've been doing it for ages. To the extent that the road has actually been resurfaced around them. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/52°13'48.6"N+0°45'30.2"E/ I've tried searching online for answers and there are plenty of "what do you do if someone is blocking your drive" questions, but nothing I've found is "someone's blocking the road". |

I would suggest in the first instance you talk to the Highways Department of your County Council who are responsible for the upkeep of the highway. Is the road "adopted", meaning is it maintained by the County Council or not? Again your County Council Highways Dept will confirm this for you. If the road is adopted then you can put pressure on the CC to do something about. Get your local County Councillor involved. If the road is unadopted, i.e. it is private then there is not a lot you can do about it.
Suffolk County Council have an online reporting system for their Highways Dept so you may wish to register your complaint on there. |

I would suggest low range and diff lock if necessary.
Possibly a couple of sofa cushions too. Good luck |

I get Hyde Cheshire when clicked on the link…. Best bet with bad parkers is to have a word with the local traffic wardens or a parking enforcement officer For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Did you speak to the owners of the vehicles? Maybe they are unaware of the trouble/danger they are causing?

I know that junction! Only ever turned right, but certainly wouldn't be able to turn left in the 110 without using the (blocked road). Just drive over the grass? Or possibly stop and inform the owner the trouble they are causing by blocking the road? Long shot but I always believe a friendly conversation should always be first cause of action.
ps - i had to cut and paste whole google reference as I ended up beside the Thames in Maidenhead! |

Cheers pasted the whole address and got it!
Just wondering though, now I have seen the road. Is the part that runs in front of the cottage part of the highway or perhaps a private road belonging to the cottage? As there are no road marking indicating a halt junction, that if it was part of the highway there should be. You need to know if the road is maintainable at public expense (ask the RoW dept at your Council). If it's not, then they can and you shouldn't drive up it.
Once you know this is the case, have a quiet word or drop a letter in and ask them not to block the highway as it's illegal. If it persists ask yourself just how much you want to prove a point. If it's as per Gilarion photo, then to be honest I wouldn't be pushing the point. At the end of the day 'technically' they are wrong. But practically? you've got to be questionably picky to want to be able to drive across the corner rather than go the few extra yards on tarmac New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info |

It doesn't look very 'maintained' to me. Wouldn't surprise me if it was 'unadopted' and conveniently created and the responsibility/belonging to the cottage? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

If you look on here: http://highwaysreporting.suffolk.gov.uk/ and zoom in, you can see a previous report (ref 124864) about obstruction. The outcome is recorded as "SCC Updated Customer", which from my contact with my local rights of way team is shorthand for "it's private land, not a right of way".
Worth contacting the ROW team to check - if you provide that reference it will save time 54 Freelander modded for mud 2008 D3 SE 2010 90 XS SW 1978 88 Series 3 undergoing surgery with a new owner 2007 90 County Truck Cab - gone 2006 D3 SE - gone 2004 Freelander Sport - gay 1999 Disco V8 ES rotted to bits |

I know that junction too and would hazard a guess that section does not form part of the public highway. If you look the gravel on the drive to the cottage also extends and forms part of the surface of the section in question - plus as has previously been mentioned there are no painted junction markings.
Personally I would not use that bit of hard surface as I reckon it, along with the triangle of grass, forms part of the property. Steve.
