New Year on the Outer Hebrides
Hey peeps going over to the Outer Hebrides for New Year. Staying on the Isle of Bernea just off Lewis. Plan to go to Stornoway for New Year's eve but rest of the time will be spent enjoy the sites and peace. So if anyone has any idea for places to see and any LR mechanics ( always handy to know) will be much appreciated. Cheers folk

Iron Age hut on north Bernera. Cnip just to the west. Standing stones at Calanais. Walk to the lighthouse around the southern edge of Scalpay. Drive from Tarbert to Huisinis past the front of the castle and walk north over to the bay. Drive from Tarbert down the eastern coast to the church at the bottom. In fact it is all fantastic. Especially in wild weather

Firstly ,, be greatfull for being in one of the top , most special locations in the world.
Everywhere you visit on outer Hebrides is amazing .
However , my recommended location is a small bakers shop on the harbour in Stornaway. The owner also hand makes thick natural sheeps wool jumpers. You definitely want one of these .

Cheers for the replies, knew about the Iron age hut I think it's a 10min walk from our cottage. Will definitely look at the other stuff. Going to Stornoway for NY eve so will be there all day. I do have two genuine Aran wool submariners jerseys one blue one ecru but suppose another wouldn't hurt! Thinking of getting a genuine tweed cap to wear in the 110 lol

There are some great beaches on Lewis, which are spectacular whatever the weather. One on Bernera, near where you're staying. Also worth visiting the vast beach down at Uig, where the Lewis chessmen were found. Then there's Dal Mhor on the west side, and Eoropaidh up in Ness. If you go up to Ness, then the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis is worth a visit; just be careful not to get blown off the cliffs! The cafe at the visitor centre at Callanish is good, as is Cafe Sonas up at Port of Ness, but might not be open in the winter months. If you're travelling around the island, take your time, as there's some old derelict Landys and tractors lying around on some of the crofts, which always catch my attention. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time; enjoy!
