2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Corris Grey
Odd echoing exhaust note
Hi

6 month old 110 with 6k miles.

Had an odd experience today, did a 3 mile trip in to town, parked for an hour. Started up and drove 300t yds out of the car park, suddenly the throttle picked up on its own for 2 to 3 seconds and the engine note changed (enough for the Mrs to notice) ... It's kind of echoey and viberberating.... Not a mechanical "something loose" rattle..

The engine pulls as normal, but there is an echoing note from the engine, throttle response seems.. Jerky and this took 3 miles to disappear.... But there still seems to be a gentle top end sounding Tappety noise now.

If it was a 300tdi we'd say the timing belt was on the way out and the timing had drifted half a tooth Smile

Always run on Shell fuel, ultimate every third tank or so.

Have read this thread and I don't think the symptoms are the same

Is it possible for an EGR to get stuck at this mileage? Seems like an exhaust note change with a bit of an extra whooshing with the echo?

Not sure how else to describe it

Al

Could just be the DPF regenerating, mine gets a louder exhaust note, but I have a straight through centre pipe, also after its finished the turbo whistle seems louder.

I thought about that, but engine was dead cold, temp gauge on the stop and had only been running for two mins... I was under the impression that it would only start a cycle if the engine was up to temp?

And I have noticed dpf before, this wasn't like that I don't think

Unfortunately I'm not sure if I've supplied enough info or not
Normally I find this place a useful source of friendly help
