WOW
I have some of that Autoglym clay stuff (we're selling our BMW convertible so I'm cleaning her up first!) and I think I might have to nab it and have a bash at mine with it... Just follow the instructions or is there a knack to it? I've never "detailed" any car before, just usually wash and polish. |

With claying its about getting contaminants off the body work, clean the car and rub your hand over and you will feel its not 100% smooth like a new clean piece of glass.
Get the bar and pull it in half, with that piece warm it in our hand and keep folding it in itself so soften and warm it. You then need to cover a panel in the rapid detailer - not doing this will cause the clay to catch and possibly mark the body work. Then go over the panel in circular motions and every so often fold the clay in itself again to hide away what its removed and keep going. If you look at my steps 75% of the work is before polishing - its all about the prep work. The polish and glaze i use are not true polishes as they also contain filler so help you along the way easily but means in 6 - 12 month you will need to redo the work again to be perfect once more. This is what i do and from my results im sure you can see it pays off In all it took about 5 hours. |

By hand you will be safe - just ensure it is thoroughly cleaned and all cloths used are 100% clean - if you get any dirt or drop it then chuck them and get a new one.
When polishing/waxing do it early as once the sun and heat comes out getting it off is a pain! Best of luck! |

Yes still plenty of the green/pink sparkles left
@stacey007 - Have been watching the car pop up in places gathering ideas and generally admiring I was very surprised in the quality of the paint with very little markings and easily polished - that's JLR! However the orange peel finish brings it back to be a Defender; so she is smooth but reflections not 100% clear. Already dirty and plenty of bugs from. Long motorway drive Gearing up for underselling now |

Thanks!
Black is horrific is showing every minor defect so needs a good detail twice a year to keep it looking neat |

Interesting Cake, because it is one of the oft mentioned comments that 'black shows the dirt'. Trust me, not as much as a 110 in Fuji white in the wet/muddy/snowy/all-of-the-above French Alps!! I'll be monitoring how my new Corris Grey DC fares, but currently with all the rain, you can see the dirt as much as any other vehicle. I think ultimately only brown will hide it Monsieur Le Grenadier
I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

I think the only colour that actually hides dirt is silver - not sure why that colour does but I have had several different coloured cars and always silver hide it the best.

Then back home to see the unbelievable amount of rust for thorough jet wash.
I also had long extension nozzles in the chassis and run until the water was clear. This uncovered everything! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Car then sat for 3 weeks to fully dry out before the real job began. |
