2006 Defender 90 Td5 Black LE Java Black

oil change

I change all filters every 12k but is it ok just to change oil at 6k?

1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue

I change mine every 6months, which sometimes is more than 6k or sometime a bit less.
Fuel/Oil/Rotor filter/Air filter/Engine oil - all changed. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Completely fine just to change oil then filter at 12,000 the main full flow filter service is every 12,000 and the rotor is every 36,000. For the price I just do everything at 6,000.

For the modest cost and minimal time involved, I'd also change the oil filter (genuine) aswell at 6k

well worth it for the peace of mind.

I think you are right for the extra £10 for a genuine filter...might as well change it

When I recently changed the cartridge filter I noticed that the replacement was much easier to fit than the original was to remove. I found the replacement was 99mm long compared to 106 mm of the original. Both are genuine landrover part no LPX100590 so they are now making the filter slightly shorter. Makes it much easier to get on and off.

That's interesting about filter length, however last time I changed it , it was actually ok to get off. The most difficult thing for me was replacing air filter as it took ages to align it in the box

I got the shorter one over a year ago so they have been like that a while. Another reason to use genuine filters as pattern ones may be based on the longer version which are very difficult to fit and remove. Older stock genuine filters are also likely to be the longer ones.

The other way round,rotor filter at 12k,main filter at 36k.

Yeah,ive noticed that,think the black one is the slightly shorter one (same part no.),dunno why,doubt landrover do either,lol! Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

AFAIK the shorter one was designed for the defender, but it gets used on the D2's as they go in a bit easier.

That's right the shorter one was black and the original white but both with the same part number. I also had a Coopers one described as OE which looks identical to the Black Genuine LR one.

Thanks for that info Podrob, I'll bear that in mind at the next service as the smaller filter will make the job a bit easier. Mine is 106mm.
