Second that. Mine did exactly that and the VCV cured it. Bought the denso/ Transit part on ebay described as SCV for £48 inc VAT

Actually Travis I think you should have said these (Pumas) were worse than the Td5. In every way.....

There's a lot of negativity in AlanH's posts at the moment, I suspect he's recently had a Bad Experience with a Puma!

Be reassured that most are actually pretty reliable, certainly as good as a Td5. Both have some well-known weaknesses (such as the VCV), but not many.

I'd second that. I had a bad experience with a TD5 before whereas my Puma has been faultless, touch wood! Thumbs Up

My 2010 2.4 has never broken down luckily as we travel to some really remote areas, but the list of things changed under warranty and after is lengthy to say the least. They may have been OK for squaddies to ride in and bash about, but personally think they're definitely well past their use by date when standing in showrooms.
Even the Cook who is it's most ardent supporter is now saying "What will you replace it with?" So her thought are heading roughly in the same direction as mine...... Cool

just give it a bit more time. I'm hopeful that by the end of the month (5yrs old) mine will be fully sorted and will require nothing more than consumables and un-necessary upgrades Very Happy

- mine didn't break down once this morning commuting to work so reliability issues seem to be a thing of the past.

Fully sorted after 5 years!!!! Caterham you have to be joking. It's an utter disgrace that any vehicle, any vehicle from any builder, should need 5 years of sorting out, mostly by the owner.
I was at a recent club outing (LROCWA) where a couple of Censored were laughing about a recent article in the local rag in which the writer was trying desperately to say something nice about a 90 he had tested. Neither of this pair had ever had a Landie (or if they did it was moons ago) so why they're actually members I do not know but can completely understand the problem the writer had.
They are a shockingly badly put together vehicle which lacks any safety features now accepted as standard on most rice pudding type stuff, and is no better at off roading than they are. The one plus I do give it is that if you dent it a bit it doesn't matter too much as the original panel fit and finish means it won't be noticed......
I've had so much done to my 2010 under warranty and since that I will never ever bother with any product from LR again.
I will say though that I got stuck into the above loud mouths as both have had major probs with their Asian vehicles which stopped them dead but as is the norm will never admit it. Laughing
On the other hand I have a mate who sold his 300Tdi Deafener after about 12 years, was very abusive about Landies in general but as soon as the warranty was up on his Nissan 3ltr went straight back to a Landie. Mad or wot?
AlanH.

Embarassed no I wasn't joking?

I'm in two halves about the defender. I love the vehicle for what it should be / so nearly is and all the heritage stuff.

I hate it cos there's so many things that let it down BIG time in my opinion such as shockingly cheap parts that rust in 5 mins, the lack of coating on the chassis, poor wiring loom etc.

I think and I can't be sure yet but I've almost from day one thought there was an electrical issue, I was told programming up the new ECM after the first failed in first few months was problematic. it just so happened I had some 'trickey' carried out on my OBD socket at the weekend and there was a 'blown' fuse on one of the ECM feeds. I'm trying to get to exact details on this but for the time being things are really smooth, it'll be 5 years old at the end of the month and if it keeps going like it is now I'm going to get a plaster cast done of my grin Very Happy
