Hi All
Doing quite a few long trips in the Defender (250+ miles) get bored of retuning the radio so bought the latest generation ipod nano because it has bluetooth, can I get it to connect to my BT enabled Alpine, can I f**k? Any ideas? Best regards James |

Can't help with any specifics but I know some of the Alpine head units needed an update to play nicely with iOS devices.
Might be worth letting us know which model of Alpine head unit you have and it's approximate age. Does the head unit have USB ? If so that will normally give better quality playback than Bluetooth. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Thank you for this. The problem is that my iphone 5 connects but the Nano doesn't
I do use the USB but it would be easier to change tracks via the Nano itself. It is a 13 MY so this shouldn't really cause me a problem. J |

The two aren't mutually exclusive, you can use USB and also use the device to change tracks etc... it's down the the head unit to allow it.
Again, an Alpine model number would help but on the JVC units I use there is an option in the head unit's menus to turn on/off what it calls "iPod Mode". With the wrong setting, plugging the iPhone into the head unit disables the iPhone's music controls and it sounds like that's what is happening on the iPod too. The Bluetooth may not be fully compatible, it depends what stack the head unit is advertising, if it's advertising as a telephony hands free then the iPod won't use it because it doesn't use telephone services. That may explain why the iPhone will pair but the iPod won't. I assume you've turned off Bluetooth on your iPhone when connecting the iPod as it won't pair with both at the same time. As a matter of interest, if you have an iPhone why would you not just use that for music ? http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Is your iPhone connected by BT as well as trying the iPod, by Alpine only connects one device and IMHO usb lead is better quality sound wise

Thank you for your responses. Given the fact that I cannot run the two devices at the same time (I should have realized this but I am a tech dinosaur) and that the sound out of the USB is better, I will stick with this option (plus the Nano will recharge).
As always, really appreciate people taking time out to help on the forum. Oh yes, if anyone had a OEM 90 Expedition or Masai roof rack for sale I would love to hear from them. All the best James |

P.S.I use the Nano for running/commuting so has all my tracks, I haven't mastered the cloud yet and have not uploaded my library to the iPhone.

I have an iPhone and an iPod , I don't put any music on my iPhone personally as I like the fact if I have my music on I can't be disturbed by the phone !
