amber engine warning light
Hi Folks,

On a 110 td4, 2008, lhd, 50k.
Amber engine check light came on last night on the way back from hols Crying or Very sad , stopped checked oil, fuel & water, Sad still on this morning - all seems normal, is there any way I can access fault bleep codes or anything similar, never had anything like this on my 200tdi! Or is there a reasonably priced reader (hopefully fit wifes Freelander 2 as well)

Thanks Big Cry

In my view Scangauge is about the most practical and cheapest option for the reading and resetting of fault codes. You can also transfer it between vehicles unlike Blackbox Solutions faultcode reader which I hasten to add is quite a bit more expensive. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

From my experience with the ScanGaugeII it will only show and let you clear some ECM faults and only when the check engine lamp has come on. At which point you can clear what is causing it. I found at other times it wouldn't report any fault codes in the ECM even though there were. 110 2.4TDCi

ickle's amber MIL light is on.....Going to a dealer and asking him to investigate the cause and reset the fault can cost you the same as a Scangauge.....As an alternative means and as a possible 'get you home tool' the first time a Scangauge is used to clear a fault it will in principle pay for itself I'd say.

Check on the MAF plug located between the airfilter box and the turbo. Puma 110" SW

Don't disagree with that, just pointing out it will only clear what it can and not anything else. Mine got me 250km stopping every so often to clear the MIL because of a blown IC hose and the turbo boost pressure dropping. 110 2.4TDCi

It obviously worked for you then as a 'get you home tool for over 150 miles?' I wished I had had a Scangauge when my MIL light came on due to my EGR Valve. I still reckon for the cost it's worth it....Justin!

'Justin case you need it!' Laughing If you can afford and justify the £100 - £120 outlay that is!

As Canonball suggested Ickle could go to the dealer under warranty or even call LR Assist if he didn't wish to leave home!

Thanks folks,

I've only recently bought the car (please dont suggest taking it back, I wouldn't trust the trader I bought it from to check tyre pressures... Mad .) it is an ex lease car that has been used and registered in Spain & I assume there is no 3 year LR warranty on it, as was with the Freelander we bough new in 2000 from Waterford and personally imported.

I've checked all connections and they seem fine, although will the light stay illuminated even if there is no fault now?

Does anyone know if there is any sort of tuning 'box' that will give diagnosis / clear faults? Bow down

If it's an EGR valve fault that clears the MIL light will go out after three driving cycles! As already stated Scangauge is probably your cheapest option if you wish to 'manage' and reset faults! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Dear All,

K9F - took your advice, bought the Scangauge I thought it was worth a try until I can afford a BAS scanner / tune! Anyway it worked a treat, thanks. Laughing Where have you mounted your gauge?

MK - I think you were right, code was P1103 'MAF higher than expected but within range' the barb that holds the connector on is missing (ham fisted filter change I guess) so a loose connection could be the cause of the higher reading I suppose.

Again many thanks
Very Happy

Ickle

Ickle,

I am slightly jealous as I haven't got a Scangauge yet! I am hoping with it being my birthday in the next few weeks and with a few hints the size of atom bombs my exhaust fund will stay intact! Or I will have to buy it myself! I spoke to Glynparry who has one and he said it would be worth the money spent the first time it was needed!
Your feedback has strengthened my belief it is a useful and cost effective tool! Thank you!

Glyn I believe has his down by the difflock lever, I would probably buy the mirror mount and stick it up there!

Glad you have had sucess with it! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Well,

Thanks to Ickle's feedback (which was the decider) I have imparted with my hard-earned and finally purchased a Scangauge. I await delivery with mounting excitement, I paid extra and bought the blendmount kit to mount it adjacent to the mirror.

I still feel that if used just once it will justify the outlay...We shall see! Thanks Ickle! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

scangauge
Second fault code cleared today (although it was a EGR so would have probably gone away on its own after 3 cycles) but I reckon I'm now in profit with the scangauge rather than taking it to a main stealer.

Does anyone know if the gallons on the scangauge are US or imperial as its programmed in dollars? Rolling Eyes
