but only for Discovery’s from the 2005 to 2013 model years, and Range Rover Sports between the 2005 and 2015 models years.
The remedial work seems very substantial: "If wear is excessive, a heavy duty multi-height tow bar will be installed, and in more extreme cases, the rear crossmember may be replaced." TBH, the detachable tow bar for 3.5t and a heavy nose weight gives me the willies! Just doesn't seem right that it's designed in that manner. Also says it all to me that they also make the multi-height bar with proper bracing legs.

Ive had the letter about it for my wifes D3
its a 2004 model and the removable tow bar looks looks genuine, Ive never towed with it as it looks too weedy for my 16ft tri axle ifor trailer. Always used the defender, may well take advantage of the recall and bring it in for a proper tow bar to be fitted! I've just received a letter from JLR regarding the detachable tow bar recall on my D4. Fortunately I decided to go for the multi height tow bar as a neighbour of mine was not very happy with his detachable on his D3. Glad I did as there has been quite a coverage of horse trailers parting company with Discos in the equine press. The only disappointment is that it has taken JLR a long time to admit to the problem. My advice, and it's the advice from JLR in their recent letter - go for the multi height. Common sense tells me that the connection from the tow ball forward should be rigid with no movement that would allow wear to take place as is the case here.
