3M Peltor X5 or other suggestions. (ear defenders)
Has anyone tried these ear defenders?
I'm looking for garden machinery purposes but appreciate some of you may have various ear defenders for other purposes such as shooting maybe etc. Possibly work?

Anyone got suggestions?
I'm currently interested in the Peltor X5 which is 37SNR which is extremely good compared to many at 26SNR.
They aren't big money either really.

Might be looking into getting these combined with a brushcutter visor / helmet but I can't guarantee if they'll fit.
I'm hoping they are an industry standard or universal for helmet fitting but I could be wrong.

I've used Peltor for years.
Clips for hard hats should all be the same.
Other option is to get the type that the band goes behind your neck, i've always pulled the little head strap bit off, never found it necessary.
This is the type I use. 35snr

I've never had them before only cheaper versions so good news to hear.
I have looked into that one in the past, only never purchased due to compatibility with other gear I've got.

I've read some say there is a flip safety side of not being aware of surroundings if the SNR is very high but I only work alone in a clear area from anyone so never work with others at the same time or around me.

There are different clips for different hard hats manufacturers, so it is not a case of one fits all I'm afraid.

I use the peltors both at work and at home and are very good. I also have the complete hard hat with visor and ear muffs that sthil do and that too is very good. I would recommend either.

Cant say about the ones you mention, I use Peltor Optime III s on my work hard hat, and the Husqvarna Forest helmet/defs/faceshield for chainsaw/strimming stuff at home. 3 Landrovers

I have looked at the Stihl and Husqvarna versions at the same time.
Both pretty much equal but as I've got a new Stihl machine being delivered tomorrow so Stihl probably a most likely choice.

I was just wondering about the Peltor as it has a SNR of 37 where as the Husky - Stihl around 26.
I suppose it's not really worth it especially if there is a possibility it won't fit.

I've got a pair of Peltor Optime II which I use when lawn mowing, strimming etc. They are good but if I were to buy again I would probably go for the Optime III for a bit better protection. They do fit with a face visor with a bit of jiggery pokery

Yeah, I could be wrong but I think the U.S. Military use similar too with their tactical helmets etc.

i use peltor optime III - work really well for everything from mowing grass to sat on tractor etc - for me anyway.

for chainsaw work i use peltors integrated for the petzl helmet - work well too. if its a long day in a tree i use in the ear ones under the helmet ones! Cheers

I saw the Petzl helmets on the site I bought my new machine from in Bristol.
I'll only be using for brushcutter so arborist / climbing gear would be pointless for me.
However, I'm interested in a forrestry helmet and visor etc due to the fact our area of cutting is around quite a few low apple trees so it's easy to hit your head on a branch by accident!

That and the fact it would keep debris from going on top your head and hair. (If you have any. Laughing )

Bit warmer in summer but I can cope with that...

The Husqvarna seems like it looks as if the ear defender mounting is different to the Stihl / Petzl. (Husky looks less compatible with Peltor)

The current visor I have is just an SNR figure of 25 / 26 but has a metal mesh and that's it. No helmet and it was relatively cheap an Oregon one.
Mind you it's good for the price....

I went for the Stihl Extreme set up in the end, should be delivered tomorrow so thank-you for all the suggestions. Thumbs Up
I'll probably give the Peltor ear defenders a go too at a later date, if they fit all will be good which they should.
If not I'll just return the Peltors as new and keep the Stihl versions.

They are most likely 3M anyway.

Thumbs Up
