Eric, a set of aluminium pedals would suit your Defender perfectly, and match the SVX shift knobs. You are welcome to try my sensitive and precise shifting 90, if you happen to wander down in to the flatlands at some point. Let me know. WC90, good write up. Certainly think this has been added to the shopping list. Just drove our spare car (Mini Cooper) and holy schmoly you suddenly remember what it's like to drive a short shift gear box. I almost thought it was broken, wondering why the gear stick hadn't moved three feet to the left before finding the gate. An inch or so max. Nice. So I think I'll take your recommendation, but after I've (Hopefully) slipped in a V8.
By the way, given you're determined to get the 90 to feel like your 911 (let's be honest, they're only a few steps apart..ahem ) have you considered this as an upgrade? http://www.bowlermotorsport.com/product/quick-ratio-steering-box/ Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Porsche and Land Rover. Separated at birth. Both have the ignition key on the left, started building cars in 1948, and have maintaned the same silhouette for nearly 70 years. Now lets keep our finger crossed that JLR doesnīt mess up their part of the deal. I donīt think iīll be going for that faster rack. Thatīs alot of money. Maybe I need to drop in at Bowlers, like you did, to experience one of their Challenge 90īs. Driving the Defender today, I actually donīt notice the short shift any more. It feels so natural, exactly how it should be, as if it was always that way. If I get into a standard one, itīll probably feel like its worn out in comparison. If anyoneīs passing through, and would like to drop by and try mine, feel free! 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

For those who might be interested, hereīs a comparison of the standard selector and the upgraded one. The dimensions of the pivot and selector balls are identical. The distance between the the two is increased by 20mm. The difference is accommodated for through the additional spacer supplied in the kit. This lifts the shift lever 20mm higher in the cabin, which is an additional improvement for Defenders running raised cubby boxes and/or padded lids.

Had my slickshift fitted last week, rattles when driving over 60 mph. Is that normal? 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

Easy to fix. There is a little bit of play between the shift knob and the new slick-shift selector lever. Unclip the shift knob and remove it, then run a short piece of electrical tape aroud the slick shift lever, and refit. It should be enough to take up the play, but not too much, otherwise the shift knob wonīt clip down into place. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Some feedback having fitted the Slick Shift a couple of weeks ago
It has made the shift shorter more precise, but it is marginal as my defender is low mileage so the plastic had not really worn very much. If I'm being critical on the negative side I can hear more gearbox noise through the gearstick, as the previous plastic part took did not allow the gear noise to come up the stick, wheras with a metal one you can hear more gearbox noise. I might need to put more grease inside the gearstick to reduce the noise transmission 2020 P300 HSE |

It shouldn't be... It's either the weights in the gearstick are loose... Or the shaft isn't located correctly/has enough grease... Mine was the latter two and now it's ok.
Hope that helps Regards Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse... 2013 Bowler 110 (Sold) 2016 Bowler 90 Rally Spec (Sold) |

I agree. There is no reason for additional noise, apart from vibration between the above mentioned components. Either add grease or electrical tape to fill the gap. Driven mine about 1500 Km, and it is still a noticeable improvement. It doesn't make the shift "slicker" or quicker, just shorter and more mechanical. More Defender, and less Transit..... 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Well having had it on for 3 months, have decided to remove mine.
I had two problems with mine - bearing in mind my defender has done less than 10k miles, first I did get some gear rumble up through the gear stick, tried insulating tape on the top of the metal stick and more grease, but it was still noticeable, plus my wife struggled getting the car in reverse after fitting the slickshift, so back to standard gearstick which she has no problems with and being plastic you do not get the same amount of gear rumble. Will probaly keep for when the gear box / linkage wears and then refit to a slightly worn gearbox In summary I think a good upgrade for worn linkages but on a fairly new vehicle makes a tight gearbox very precise. 2020 P300 HSE |

could also do with pics on this anti rattle tape....
fitted mine the two pieces went together very easily, unlike the install video... rattles like you wouldn't believe... not going to be happy if i have to take it out again, just glued down a brand new carpet set which i really don't want to remove as it will probably trash it. not too impressed to be honest.. |
