I don't know. And honestly I don't care. I'm getting the color I wanted!

In addition, thinking about it, Landrover records will always show the car as Santorini, so you'll always have a "resprayed", "non original", car, that has had to be pulled apart & rebuilt,.....I would not want such a car,.....I reckon you just cop the Santorini & maybe some compensation from your Dealer,.....maybe the cost of the "respray" which if done properly would not be cheap? Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The work will be done by a JLR-licensed body shop. That' s good enough for me. The're not going to take the engine out though - I would assume. Some more layers of paint sounds like a good thing to me.

If they don't take the engine out, how can they respray all of the bits/panels etc. Some bits will be Santorini, some will be Havanna!! Likewise all the trim, door rubbers, EVERYTHING will have to come out, if you want it done properly. Just have a look at ALL that is currently painted Santorini,.....ALL of that will have to be re-painted!!
If you want a "Factory" job, then basically the bare shell will have to be painted, insides of doors etc etc,.....Mate, just think about it......You're gonna end up with a "re-sprayed" new Defender,....not for me. Pickles. |

I like it. Santorini and havana go together nicely me thinks. They will do the insides too by the way, just not sure about the motor compartment.

I read this thread from the beginning again and understand that while you are a Swiss resident you decided to buy you truck new in Germany because it was cheaper there. At least, that is what you wrote. So in the end I guess it is you personally who will do the import into Switzerland and do everything the Swiss require to register it here, and pay all taxes, etc. for that. Now you have this German seller, is it a official German JLR dealer by the way?, offer you to repaint that new truck in Havana. Strange, because to do it right will be very costly to the dealer (read Pickles), so there goes his profit for a sale to a Swiss resident, with little chance to have follow up business for maintenance, etc. as the truck will be moving into another country after delivery. Very generous I'd say. What if the respray is not going to turn out satisfactory? Is your German seller/dealer going to spend more correcting money? Will JLR Germany help a non-German resident buyer? Will JLR Switzerland be interested to intervene in an issue where a Swiss resident went abroad to buy cheaper than from the official Swiss dealer network? Now, as said, my above comments are based on your earlier posts where you essentially wrote that you did a "grey import deal". Bonne chance with all that, hope everything goes as you expect. By the way, on a separate note, I don't think you will be able to benefit from the 3 year free dealer service which comes standard with all Defenders bought from Swiss official dealers, no? I would be very wary about a respray where the original colour is still clearly visible (such as under the bonnet). I think you need to think about the time when you come to sell the defender and the questions you will get from potential buyers asking why the defender has been resprayed. If it was me I would not buy it due to the paintwork having been done. Why not keep it as it is in black and negotiate some form of compensation such as free servicing with the dealer? 2015 Defender 90XS HT |

Appreciate your concerns. Grey import? Please explain. Not only cheaper. More friendly. More interested. More helpful. Swiss resident? I am as Swiss as they come. But what does citizenship have to do with this? I never bought a brand new car before and I don't think about selling it before I even drove it. Anyways, cheers to all the reasonable people out there! Regards, Christopher |

Grey import - I mean by that that JLR Switerland will not be very understanding for Swiss residents shopping for new cars abroad and then import, rather than buying locally in Switzerland. Neither will JLR Germany bother much about you, so in case something goes astray you are going to be very much on your own I think.
I would not want to be in your position when you will expect some flexibility at times you will need warranty work. And I hope that your Defender is going to be a keeper, because if you decide to sell such a grey import here, you will look at serious discounts to second hand prices of normal Swiss cars, and you will not even be able to sell it in its original country Germany anymore as it will have been "Swissonised", and you or the buyer would have to reverse that again. I never used the word "citizenship" here, which has a totally different meaning than "resident" by the way. Hope it all works out as per your expectations. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Christopher, No worries, it's your car, it's your first NEW car, so it's all good.
BUT, dismantling (& all that that entails) & re-spraying a brand new Defender, in what at the end of the day will be a very similar colour, IS DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD IDEA, but it is of course your decision to do whatever you like,...we all respect that. I don't know how much experience you've had with cars, but to do what you propose to do, wouldn't be a good idea with ANY car, in fact it's a REALLY BAD idea. In fact, it's so bad, that I really wonder if you're really serious, or just having us on? Pickles. |

Correctness is more Swiss than German ...
Just to say it politely: this sounds like appeasement policy to me. Presumably, they want to keep you calm and quiet until the deal is perfect. Then they're never going to see you again. And what would you do in Switzerland? Have you already received the car in Havanna? You'll remember me before the end. |
