They do come up occasionally and I got what was deemed to be a bit of a bargain in comparison to new price. Mine were unblemished with runners, still expensive when you consider the amount of leather you can buy at a well known furniture discount store to plonk your ar5e on.
I got mine from the forum at a mutually agreeable price from the add below. They had been covered from the onset with genuine covers (also included in the sale) and as a result were in as near to new condition as you could expect. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic37267....recaro+svx One of the best albeit expensive mods you can do IMHO. Whilst I appreciate your desire for 'new in a new vehicle' as stated excellent condition ones do come up. I waited about 2 years for the right set at the right price. If a set do come up that you fancy my advice would be to act quickly. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! K9F I'm sure good sets do come up at a fair price but I think a lot of people just get tired of waiting and end up going another route. As per my comment above, the Corbeau Sportline low base can be found for £475 (inc delivery) for the vinyl version and LRI were offering Def2 members the leather versions for circa £1,900
http://www.lrisolutions.co.uk/index.php/la...-1991.html As nice as the SVX are the Corbeau make a good alternative. m33ufo - check out my link above, these are the seats Barney had fitted to his new 90 and they do look good. |

Depends how patient you are and your desire for the genuine article. I only paid about 10% more than your link above for the 'perfect condition' SVX ones. Beauty is if I ever decide to sell them I'll easily get what I paid for them, especially looking at recent ads for the same seats.
![]() Just trying to answer and perhaps persuade the OP into waiting a while to secure what he wants rather than shell out and maybe regret it afterwards? The linked seats look very good at a reasonable price but for me personally despite not needing regular access prefer the concept of having the removable bases like the OEM seats. ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I was the luckiest guy in the world who bought a 'take out' set of Genuine SVX Recaros that came out of a 90 that had been built by LR for the cancelled G4 Challenge in 2008/9 and were totally unmarked.
I bought them via Ebay as a 'buy it now' from a LR dealer who delivered for free, for the sum of, wait for it ..... £800 for the pair ![]() They've been in three of my Defenders and been retrimmed in leather twice (but not the all important LR and Recaro logos) |

Agreed but it seems people have an inflated idea of what used seats are worth based on the ludicrous price LR retail the seats for. I'd guess Recaro make small batches for LR and charge a premium as a result. LR then add their mark-up and know that they are desirable. I wonder how many of the sets bought from LR are actually theft related and the bill is picked up by an insurance company? One concern with them is that it wouldn't take the theft of too many other parts, in conjunction with the Recaros, to make the Defender an insurance write-off. Many years ago I had a Mk2 Golf GTI with OEM Recaros. The car was stolen and the front and rear seats were take, along with the factory headunit; the insurance company wrote the entire car off. The reason they gave was the cost of replacement seats! |

Exmoor Trim E Sport Seats may be worth a look as they appear excellently priced too (perhaps retrimmed Corbeau?) Several people dithering waiting for others to buy and provide feedback on what they're actually like. Any thieves would probably take the truck and leave the seats behind on the drive.

I'm not dithering anymore. After reading a thread on here recently about the 1st person that I know of to actually order the seats, I won't be going near Exmoor..
Think I'll be getting the low base Corbeau's from LRI. As has been pointed out by LRI there are ways to tell that the Exmoor seats are not genuine Corbeau's as well. |

The Exmoor ones are high sided (base bolsters) and unlike the Recaro SVX and Corbeau Sportline low base, will look pretty tatty in no time at all.
I notice Exmoor offer their 'Elite Seat' which has side bolsters on the back but reduced on the base. Better but the rest of the seat is pretty unattractive to my eyes. Corbeau, imho, are pretty clever. They've seen the need and responded. Here is how they describe the Sportline low base: http://www.corbeau-seats.com/sports-road-s...uct_id=250 "A revised version of the RSS, the Low Base has been designed due to the high demand we have recieved from 4x4 owners, Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler customers specifically. The RRS already had up-to-the-minute styling, giving you the ultimate in comfort and safety. This steel-framed sports recliner has high quality moulded foam cushion, with lumber support to give maximum comfort whilst not compromising lateral support. Now with its ultra low side bolster this is the perfect application for any high rise vehicle. Fitted with a high quality single reclining and tilting mechanism for ease of adjustment." |

I have seen these seats in the flesh. IMHO they look all wrong and the ones I saw (brand new in one of their distributors) were poorly finished (loose leather with creases). They are neither "standard" or "sport" just "mungrel". All my 2p's worth. As the saying goes "opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one" ![]() |

I'll take a look. Do Recaro make a low base version of their standard seat? edit...to answer my own question, the cross sportster CS is a low base version of the sportster CS. |

Other than the one you've already mentioned (Sportster CS), they make a couple of others; however, I don't know how easy they are to fit into a Defender:

This is the one I'd go for (Cross Sportster CS - with seat heating). The base of the "Cross" version looks very close to the SVX item and I can't imagine it causing a problem with scuffing etc.

Well, I think I am going to call it a week and go thru the hassle of driving home sitting in one of those real SVX Recaros, and having to shift gears with those alu gear shift knobs which some on here despise as being too cold to touch in the winter. For some strange reason all that stuff was already put in the truck in Solihull. And then I have to look at that Garmin which they also put well integrated on the dash with its own dedicated hidden speaker when the truck was built. On top of that I will have to cope with that small Startech steering wheel. What a pain I'm in for this afternoon.
![]() ![]() Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw Last edited by ericvv on 4th Sep 2015 2:36pm.
