Partly for stealing our land, slaughtering our princes, battering the hell out of my great-grandfathers' generation for having the cheek to speak their own language at school, but mainly for all the sheep-shagger jokes whilst in England at university Sheep . It's only on a collective basis though, and individually you're all mostly fine - I even liked you when we met Steve. Very Happy

As you say, watching the Battle of Britain coverage on the telly does bring a lump to the throat and a great deal of pride as to the courage and actions of both previous and current members of the armed forces, and national boundaries fade away.

Anyway, back to the beer ...

as you've said..Gods country...SOMERSET!

as you may be aware we can quantify the country quite easily.

North of Bristol is birmingham, north of that is grimmer!,south is the english loving cornish and the kernows who also pretend to like us swamping there sea side town when it ain't raining and finaly...the other side of salisbury plain is London....simples Thumbs Up

What makes me smile about the Welsh and Scots automatically hating me because they think I'm English, is the fact I've Irish blood in me and a faint line of Scottish, and spent four of my first seven years living in South Africa, returning to the UK when Spitting Image released that decking song "I've Never Met a Nice South African". English kids called me a Sud Afrikahn"!

Why I live Up North Very Happy

Cheaper beer that isn't Flat

Better Looking Sheep.

Friendly people that give a f##k

Proper Fish n Chips

Cheaper housing.

Miles and miles of beaches.

We have wilderness, not just a postage stamp sized moor.

Proper Yorkshire Puddings

Beautiful scenery.

More Salmon Rivers.

Down to earth Foxhunts.

Quiet roads.

Less crime.

You got Jordan, we got Cheryl Cole.

A686 from Hexham to Penrith

We have trees that don't fall over in a stiff breeze

Red Squirrels.

Rush hour

Cleveland way, Pennine way, Coast to coast, Hadrians Wall way.

The Lake District.

Miles and Miles of Greenlanes.

Kippers

Surfing, premier British Cup competition, staged at Tynemouth for the last two years - the home of British champion Sam Lamiroy.

Stotties.

18 blue flag beaches.

The Star Inn, Netherton, Northumberland.

The Likely Lads.

Viz magazine

Whitelees Moor in Northumberland, the biggest Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve in England

Ocean wind turbines off Blyth - the green technology of the future, in which the North-East leads the way.

The plaque reading "Made in Middlesbrough" on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The largest unbroken waterfall in England, the roaring white water of High Force in Teesdale.

And Best of All Yorkshire,
