You might find that the previous drive flanges have been flopping about for a while and have put some wear on the ends of the splined shafts. Also you may find that the splines aren't entirely clean which is stopping the new flanges from slipping on, I did have a bit of trouble with one of mine when I had to change it on a pay and play site after it decided to give out, A bit of work with a file and a hacksaw blade then a hammer sorted it (y)

Google says frc5806 is the earlier part for axles with 10spline diff. Latter 24 spline diff axles require a different flange. The change on defenders happened around late 1993/early 1994 if you have the original axles.

The ones I tried to fit were definitely 24 spline units. Just didn't fit. I did powdercoat em first. Maybe baking the paint distorted the casting or something. I was trying to find out if people sometime have to press them on or something.

I fitted exactly the same flanges on my 90,& they were feckin tight.
Try fitting them to the shaft first,on the bench. Make sure they are lined up properly, then tap them on with a soft mallet. Marc. |

WHOOOOAAAAAA STOP !!!
I just replaced all the swivels, bearings and brakes on my 110, I estimated a FULL day of spannering (7am-10pm). The first drive flange was seized on, hours of heat and chiselling made no difference, I had to unbolt the lot from the axle case, had pullers and everything on it....no luck. Luckily I had a new cv and drive flange in 'stock', so I had to use a cutting disc and a grinder to get the flange off, which then was an absolute pig. One side took me 2 days. Luckily the other side slid off as normal. This is a quarter of the way through... Click image to enlarge If you're keeping the 110 ( as you've powder coated the flange, I expect so) I would not recommend hammering or pressing it on, for future maintenance. I'd look at getting a replacement cv, to try the flange on...it's worth having a spare anyway, if it won't fit on that, look at getting a different flange. |

This might sound stupid but you did remember NOT to powder coat the splines?

LRDirect list FRC5806 for upto VIN : KA930455
For later, 300tdi on, you want FTC859 or RUC105200 from VIN : LA930456 In case you aren't aware, the 24 spline bit refers to the spline count where the halfshaft fits into the diff, not the spline count at the flange. |
