I got round to one of the jobs I've been meeting to do for months
 fit my new winch bumper and steering guard only to find the guard brackets won't fit wit the bumper due to the extra fixing points under the bumper that use the holes in the chassis for the lashing eyes. Has anyone had this problem? What did you do? Is there a steering guard with brackets that fit on the outside of the chassis instead of the inside.  |

I have removed lashing eyes already but the bumper lower fixing bar is stopping me fixing the guard bracket on as well. Not sure of the make of the guard as I bought it ages ago!

 Click image to enlarge Here is a picture of guard brackets in place but the fold part on top of bracket is fouling the bracket on the winch bumper when trying to fit on. |

This is the classic problem of compatibility between after market products from different suppliers.
Looking at that photo of the steering guard supports they 'appear' to be a bit on the thin side to me. Would trimming that top fold remove some of the 'rigidity' out of the steering guard brackets? Brendan |

Looking at the photo it seems to me that you could chop off part/all of the top horizontal flange without significantly weakening the brackets, since the front portion of the flange (which is actually the part of the bracket where a flange would be useful and add strength!) has already been removed.
It is hard to see that the remaining portion of flange has any structural significance, and to be honest it doesn't look to be a very sturdy arrangement. |
