Yep was running a Nak gasket. Why the question? Any thoughts?

Ouch Shocked

WHY would a gasket cause that failure? Are they a variable thickness?? YOLO... You Only Live Once...

It's strange indeed the Nakata gasket is wider and softer.... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I am only speculating but would have thought either the unit had been subject to impact damage, it had a flaw in the material or it had been overtorqued, maybe one or more of the preceding to cause such catastrophic failure perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Yes was Nak gasket. It's tuned by Alive. The turbo has warped the flange before. First time I just fitted Nak gasket, then second time I refaced the turbo and manifold faces, and fitted Nak gasket. It then failed again so refaced turbo again, and removed cat, fitted free flow exhaust, and Nak gasket thinking this would help.

I can't believe that the turbo flange is weaker than M8 studs, very disappointing.

It was on tight, well as tight as you can get M8 nuts with a ring spanner.

I am of this school of thinking too.

That really is odd. I'd guess the combination of a thicker than usual gasket some overtorque of the bolts and lots of extreme thermal cycles.

Not a good sight.
