cut it off and crimp a better one on
or connect to where earth lead connects to chassis ( think the bolt is long enough to put extra lead on and extra nut to save disturbing original nut ) |

I too found the same, and also followed the negative battery lead to the chassis. I used a longer (110mm IIRC) stainless fastening to make sure, and used lashings of corrosion block ACF50 grease on the fastening. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

as a extra security measure its not a bad idea to run a extra earth from a different hole on battery box to chassis anyway , cutting off old terminal and fitting one with a bolt on is good thing to do
